I feel like this activity gave me a lot of points to write about in my letter to the ACLU and also gave me evidence to back up my claims.
B) One activity that I found useless is the plan of attack. It felt like busy work and did nothing to benefit us.
C) I don't care about politics but I think in order to vote you should be educated. We need to start educating people from a young age and need to keep that a constant.

A) I liked meeting with staff members in person because it taught me that many people don't know any of the props. Also, some provided very good details on how they feel on the props. B) I didn't think that contacting outside political people was very useful because many of them didn't respond. When they responded though, they all said the same thing to my group which was they can't answer. C) Before the unit I knew nothing about the props in California, and all I knew about politics was that the two main parties are democrat and republican. This unit has taught me many things about how you can purpose a prop, and what they mean for California.

An activity from the unit I found meaningful was the final project to the ACLU. I learned how important it is to project my opinion and voice my thoughts. I learned a lot about this topic that I wouldn't have cared to look at if we didn't have to write the letter. However, the petition seemed useless as getting 100 signatures is a lot so as students we just passed the paper around asking students to sign it even if they didn't agree. My opinion / idea / knowledge of the democratic process have changed a lot from the begging to the end of this unit. I not only learned how to voice my opinion but learned a lot through others by emailing and contacting staff/students/political figures/etc.

I found myself eager for the time I will be able to vote, which I wasn't really expecting to happen in all honesty. I realized every vote counts and getting to know what my opinions are, is very meaningful.

a.) I found contacting candidates meaningful because it taught me how to communicate with adults and politicians in a professional way. The graphic organizer was, also, meaningful for me because it allowed me to combine all of the information I received into one document.
b.) An activity that felt less useful was the 6-word memoir. It did allow us to share our argument, however it was not a main factor in whether or not someone signed our groups petition.
c.) Before I began this project, I was unaware that propositions are made from petitions, which are made from citizens of California. This project furthered my knowledge on the ways the government works and what an example of a proposition is. It taught me how to communicate with politicians, how politicians communicate with you, and part of how our state government works.

(a) I found the research portion of this activity meaningful. It taught me different ways I can research politics in our time, and also allowed me to better grasp our nation and the way it functions.
(b) The only activity that felt useless was creating the memoir. I wasn't sure how it connected to the main goal of the unit, and how it was supposed to influence and teach students about politics.
(c) My opinion has changed from mostly apathetic (with varying degrees of interest when it came to certain topics i.e. women's rights) to curious and interested. Now that I know how to research candidates, props, etc., I feel more inclined to be an active voter. I also see how one vote, and even just contacting our state's representatives, can affect politics and what they decide to do. A student can learn a lot just by speaking to an individual involved with politics, and by doing so, can affect their future.

a) I found the research on the propositions meaningful. I found this portion meaningful because I was able to educate myself and understand what was going on in our state.
b) I felt the portion of the project where we had to reach out to political figures useless. I felt this was useless because often the people we reached out to didn't respond, or if they did it was an automatic response that just said they would get back to us soon.
c) My opinion changed because at the start of this unit I didn't care for politics and I thought it would be hard to become educated. After this unit I realized how much my voice matters and how easy it is to become educated about political issues. I also learned that everyone's voice matters and by expressing your opinion through voting you can have an impact on your community and state.

a)I believe the most challenging is time commitment. O'Connor gives a lot of in class assignments and its your job as an individual to fully execute in order to fully optimize on your goal set in mind. Its a mental process that you need to overcome as it serves as a life message.
b) The best part about this class is the full creative control each student has. Through the projects O'Connor assigns he has a prompt in mind and the rest is the students execution in writing an original piece.
C) Most memorable moments for me is the countless actions O'Connor brings to the classroom. At certain times it feels like a front row comedy show, he really has a great sense of humor and wit. He shows controversial subjects in a comedic manner, appealing to all audiences.
D) I love this class and enjoy walking in the classroom everyday as you don't know what is to come with O'Connordom. Everyday is a new day.
