Matching the needs of the community to the resources of the environment and strengths (skills) of the volunteer is a theory that is ideal. 

Yet where do we stand as a society on this matter? Is this something that organisations are trying to promote yet, students are unable to see or put into practice when they are adopting certain projects? If so, where should the starting point be for students or working adults who are ambiguous about volunteering?

Would the resources be better spent if we focus inwards instead? After all there are many more things still to be done in Singapore.
