The comparison of the story of Emmett in 'Ghost Boys' and the CommonLit article add to my learning about different perspectives and texts because in the CommonLit it showed both sides of the story, Emmetts side and the side of his killers, while the story of Emmett in ghost only shows emmetts side. There also were other differences between the two text, but it just shows how the two texts show different stories, because of the authers different perspectives on the subject.

There are many differences that are either more in detail or just not mentioned when comparing the fiction account and the nonfiction account. The fiction account of the “Emmett Till” story has a lot more detail in the smaller things, but don’t go as in depth on the bigger things. For example, the fictional Emmett Till talks about the interactions between Carolyn and Emmett, but don’t at all talk about the aftermath of the murder. The nonfiction version tells us about the very important aftermath of his murder, but doesn’t talk about the interaction between Emmett and Carolyn.

The Non-fiction article was told more factual, and was told by an author years later meaning that it didn't go as in depth as the personal account of Emmett. Both I think told the story well, however I think that the truth of what happened was somewhere between the two. It helped me understand the situation better by giving me two sides to this story (even though they were similar).

The story of Emmett Till portrayed differently when comparing fiction to nonfiction, because when reading fiction was more based on the emotional details and emotional part of the Emmett Till story. While, nonfiction focused more on the informational details and the informational part of the Emmett Till story. One example supporting this in the chart above is what Emmett Till said to Mrs. Bryant at the gas station. The fictional story portrayed Emmett Till stuttering his w’s due to nervousness, sounding like a whistle. While, the nonfiction story portrayed Emmett Till whistling in fascination with her. This shows the difference between the fiction and nonfiction stories because, the fictional story focused more on the emotional details of that moment. For example, they stated that Emmett was nervous, causing him to stutter his w’s sounding like a whistle. The fictional story used the nervous aspect of Emmett in their recount of it while the nonfiction did not. The nonfiction story focused more on the informational details and broad topics of the situation. For example, they simply said he whistled at her and nothing else. They never said he stuttered or had a speech impediment. They plainly said that he whistled at her attractively. They focused more on the general information and details of the story rather than the emotional aspect of the fictional story. Showing us, the story of Emmett Till portrayed differently when comparing fiction to nonfiction, because when reading fiction was more based on the emotional details and emotional part of the Emmett Till story. Plus, adding to our learning about Emmett or about different perspectives and texts.

I think that Emmett meant that Jerome was now one of the few people who saw the horrors of Emmett's death and what really happened. Only few knew about this, most of them having no regrets. By sharing his strong Jerome became part of the "community", the community that can be strong together and share this story across the world. Thousands of lynching incidents happened, but because of the witnesses such as Mamie Till or even Rob Bryant sharing the story, the death of Emmett Till changed the world. Everyone there had an important impact, they were "bear witnesses", now including Jerome.
