  • This article discusses the new proposed construction of a 23 story high-rise apartment building in the Northwestern Pearl District. The issues surrounding this project is the demolition of 2 existing buildings as well as investors falling through the cracks. Permits have been in the approval process, however would the 85 million dollar projected price tag be worthwhile. This venture is backed by a Texas based investment company claiming the waterfront will be a booming center of life, while some Oregonians argue this could affect the apartment market.   • This article goes over how the construction of the new 35 story Ritz Carlton will affect the surrounding area of downtown Portland. Plans, permits, and getting the final go ahead took quite some time due to the Ritz Carlton’s location displacing a sprawling food cart pod. The mixed-use tower is said to draw a lot of attention from investors, businesses, and bring new revenue to the area. The Ritz Calton also provided 20 million dollars for the renovation of the Galleria building that sits adjacent. With all in mind, will the Ritz Calton bring new developments and business better than the food cart pods?

  • This article focuses on the 122 million dollar infrastructure plan for the new OMSI waterfront district, seeking approval from the Portland Design Commission and the pubilc. This plan has been in the works since 2008 - providing a new inclusive community, better public transit, 1200 housing units, and sustainability. This major redesign is a part of making the downtown area clean, renewable, and up to date after the pandemic. OMSI could produce up to 4,300 jobs after this major redesign but does that cover the massive price tag?
