At age 26, Mandela co-founded with others the African National Congress (ANC) Youth League. Its founders felt that ANC was dominated by conservative and older generation who cannot relate to the youth. This marked the beginning of his political activism and leadership development. The Youth League advocated for more radical action against apartheid, moving beyond the ANC's traditional moderate approach. This showed Mandela's early ability to organize, inspire others, and challenge established thinking - key leadership qualities that would define his career.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luinWNFVCIc

Apartheid (transl. "separateness", lit. 'aparthood') was a system of institutionalised racial segregation that existed in South Africa and South West Africa[a] (now Namibia) from 1948 to the early 1990s. It was characterised by an authoritarian political culture based on baasskap (lit. 'boss-ship' or 'boss-hood'), which ensured that South Africa was dominated politically, socially, and economically by the nation's minority white population.

Under this minoritarian system, white citizens held the highest status, followed by Indians, Coloureds and black Africans, in that order.

The economic legacy and social effects of apartheid continue to the present day, particularly inequality.

(source:Wikipedia)
