Sovereignty allowed settlers to choose whether to allow slavery or not but this was a direct violation of the Missouri compromise which state that any land north of 36,30 would not allow the practice of slavery.<br>2. The Kansas-Nebraska act narrowly passed which led to more arguments about  pro and anti-slavery sides.<br>3. In 1847 Dred Scott tried to sue the supreme court for his freedom but the supreme court ruled that no black man could ever be considered a citizen of the united states.<br>3. In 1859 a federationist named John Brown gave southern slaves weapons and encouraged them to have a slave rebellion they captured an armory but the marines under general Robert E. Lee took back the armory and John brown was tried and convicted of treason before being sentenced to death.<br>2.The south feeling that there way of life was in danger started to plot and Lincoln at the time said he feared for the countries piece.<br>1. The actions that led up to this point caused quite a bit of tension and later led to the civil war.</div>]]></description>

Settlers in a territory were able to decide whether or not they wanted slavery in that land, this was called Popular Sovereignty. <br>2. The congress made it that balck man could never be citizens of the U.S. like other people living there. <br>3. John Brown was a man who tried to lead a slave rebellion but was caught by the United States Marines and killed for treason.<br> <br>Things I Was Suprised About:<br>1. Bleeding Kansas was a very brutal and harsh thing where many died. <br>2. That a black man was not considered and could not be a citizen. <br><br>A Question I Had:<br>1. How big of a toll did this event make on the Civil War compared to other events in history?</div>]]></description>
