Relevance to Teens

Students who use cocaine would be willing to stray away from the norm and take risks, since cocaine is not socially or legally accepted in society. They are generally impulsive thinkers, who could be easily swayed for example by some friends at a party. Cocaine is highly addictive, so if someone was to try it once at a party due to peer pressure, they could immediately become addicted to it which would impact their life greatly. Depending on the availability of cocaine in a general location, the chance of teens accessing and using or even abusing the substance will vary. According to the NHSDA in the year 2000, 0.5% of people aged 14 and 15 used cocaine with no change throughout the year. However, for people aged 16 and 17 the amount of cocaine users increased from 0.9% to 1.1%.
