         <description><![CDATA[<p>Topic : Biology</p><p><br/></p><p>Question </p><p>How would the yeast and sugar affect the balloon?</p><p><br/></p><p>Hypothesis</p><p>My hypothesis is the yeast and the sugar would affect the balloon by expanding a lot.</p><p><br/></p><p>Meterials :</p><p>✎ 1 package of dry yeast </p><p>✎ warm water</p><p>✎ 1 tablespoon of water</p><p>✎ a 1-liter plastic bottle </p><p>✎ large measuring cup </p><p>✎ 1 large balloon </p><p>✎ small mixing bowl</p><p><br/></p><p>Procedure</p><p>1. Combine the sugar and dry yeast in the mixing bowl.</p><p>2. Measure 1 cup of warm water using the measuring cup.</p><p>3. Add the yeast/sugar mixture to the measuring cup and stir until the mixture is dissolved.</p><p>4. Pour the contents of the measuring cup into the plastic bottle.</p><p>5. Place the mouth of the balloon over the neck of the bottle </p><p>6. Place the bottle in a warm, dark place. </p><p>7. Observe the bottle every 15 minutes for the next few hours to look for changes in the size of the balloon. </p><p>8. Check the balloon the next day and observe any changes.</p><p><br/></p><p>Analysis</p><p>I observed that the balloon was expanding straightly. The balloon becomes bigger and have some bubbles because the yeast eats the sugar then make a carbon dioxide.</p><p><br/></p><p>Conclusion</p><p>I hypothesized that yeast and the sugar would affect the balloon by expanding a lot. My hypothesis was correct but there was a unusual thing happen it was the balloon was expanding straight and puffy.</p>]]></description>

Add the yeast/sugar (1/2 of pact of yeast) mixture to the measuring cup and stir until the mixture is all mixed.</p><p> 4. Pour the mixed yeast and sugar on the measuring cup into the plastic bottle. </p><p>5. Place the mouth of the balloon over the neck of the bottle </p><p>6. Place the bottle in a warm, dark place.</p><p> 7. Observe the bottle every 15 minutes for the next few hours to look for changes in the size of the balloon. </p><p>8. Check the balloon the next day and observe how much the balloon grow.</p>]]></description>

This becomes the DNA extraction liquid.</p></li><li><p>Add two spoons of the liquid into the ziplock bags with strawberry.</p></li><li><p>Reseal the bag and smash it for another minute. Avoid making too many soap bubbles.</p></li><li><p>Place the coffee filter in the other plastic cup.</p></li><li><p>Pour the strawberry liquid into the filter.</p></li><li><p>Squeeze the leftover into the cup gently. </p></li><li><p>Pour the same amount of alcohol as the strawberry liquid into the  cup. However, all of the batteries worked, and the only thing that was different was how long they took. So, as long as there is enough energy in the batteries, it will work.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The DNA was  successfully extracted from the strawberry, but not from the lime and grapes. I think this happened because the detergent helped break open the cells and the salt gathered the strands of DNA together. Also, the alcohol separated the DNA from the liquid. A little amount of bubbles were formed when the extraction liquid and strawberry were mixed. This may  be because strawberries contain a lot of cells and the cells broke up well because of the DNA extraction liquid. However, the DNA extraction didn't work for the grape and lime because too many soap bubbles were formed. This may show the cells did not break open well. This may be because grapes and limes do not contain a lot of cells. Consequently,  the DNA extraction liquid could not lyse the cells.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>My hypothesis that strawberries would be appropriate  for DNA extraction was correct. However, the reason was because strawberries had many cells and it was an advantage when the cells were bring lysed. I could expand this experiment further by researching about the features of cells and DNA.                                                               </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>I observed to the four different structures. The first design was falling down, and the Lego cracked. And the second lego seemed very weak and not in good condition, but it was the best lego structure in does four things it was very fast and safe. The three one was very weak and it did not make it to the end and it fell in the middle of the zipline. The fourth one has the same result as the 2nd one and it was very safe and fast of the lego to stay, but the 2nd lego was the safest.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>My hypothesis was correct because I used big bottle and when I used a lot of liquids balloon grew big but when I used a little of lemon juice, orange juice, and baking soda the balloon was very small. Next time I could improve by using a lot of them. This time I didn't used same amount for each liquids.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>SAND: Sand quite a long time for the water to fall. The water was kind of brown however, there were no dirt falling with the water. I could see that the sand was absorbing a little water as well. </p><p><br/></p><p>ROCKS: Rock water was pretty yellow. A lot of dirt got washed away but the water did not become clean like the others. However, the water came out quickly and we did no have to wait that long.</p><p>Time: 3min</p><p><br/></p><p>LEAVES: The leaves didn't purify water well. There were a lot of dirt coming out and it had really yellow water. Almost similar with the dirty water. I think it is because we ripped the leaves and it became not dense. </p><p>Time: 4min</p><p><br/></p><p>TREE BARK: When I poured the water, some parts of the tree bark floated up. I wondered why the tree bark floated but not the leaves that were lighter than the bark. The water looked orange </p><p>Time: 3min 35sec</p><p><br/></p><p>FLOWER PETAL: I thought that flower petals won't be a good purifyer because it looked similar to leaves and leaves did not work well. However, the flower petals turned out to be better than the leaves but not as good as sand. The water seemed yellow. ( there were a little but of dirt there) </p><p>Time: 3min 49sec </p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The reason how dirty water gets purified by natural materials is because the dirt gets stuck in the density of the resource. Sand has many little particles that make the sand denser and denser. This helps the dirt to get stuck in the sand and only smooth water can go through. So, the most dense sand purified dirty water the best. Also, flower petals purifyed the water well too because it has a large face and could catch dirt well.</p>]]></description>

Because sand had a purifying cycle underground, sand is a really good purifying material. Next time, I will combine every material and see what happens to the water.</p>]]></description>
