deforestation in the Malaysian rainforest is a major problem. there are many different ways in which deforestation actually takes place. these can vary from logging for wood or clearing spaces in the rainforest so people can mine and get all the minerals from the ground. a lot of deforestation in Malaysia is illegal and the government need to take action. in the picture below this is how badly we are affecting our rainforests. just imagine al the animals that lived in the trees that we have destroyed, how they could be dead underneath all the logs because of us. this is a major issue that needs to be stopped before it is to late

logging is one of the major impacts on deforestation. it is the process in which people cut down trees big and small and use the sell the wood to big companies for a prophitable price. although this is a social and economic high as big companies (run by people which is social) buy the wood (economic impact) and the people who chop the wood down from the local area get a good deal for the wood. however this is also an environmental issue as we are destroying the habitats of many animals that live in the rainforest such as orang-utan. they could become extinct if we carry on destroying their homes. in the picture below you can see an orang-utan walking where our diggers and big lorries have been, plowing through the trees for money. we are so selfish when you look at it from an orang-utans point f view. statistics have proven that 80% of logging in Malaysia and other low populated areas with rainforests has been taking place illegally and the government hasn't taken action as all they want is money.

Gold, copper, diamonds, and other precious metals and gemstones are important resources that are found in rainforests around the world. Extracting these natural resources is frequently a destructive activity that damages the rainforest ecosystem and causes problems for people living nearby and downstream from mining operations. these metals can be worth an awful lot of money, which is an economic impact on the rainforest.

cattle ranching is when a local farmer clears little pockets of the rainforest so he can breed his cattle and other crops he may have. the cattle will graze on the land until they are the required size to be slaughtered and processed into beef.
cattle ranching can be quite harmful to the environment if the farmer clears lots of land continuously. this is an environmental and economic issue as the farmer is clearing space for his cattle (economic) and the farmer gets money from his livestock afterwards (economic).

subsistence farming is when local people hunt in the rainforest for food that they can eat or sell. they just take what they need in small bunches. this is a sustainable way for locals to get their food and make a small amount of profit. another way of subsistence farming is similar to cattle ranching but on a smaller scale. the farmers will clear pockets of the rainforest so they can grow crops. they then eat them and sell them for money. this is a social and economic impact of the deforestation in Malaysia, but most of all it is an environmental impact as they are slaughtering animals at the end of the day.

as well as extracting precious metals and gemstones there are is a very demanding type of vegetable oil: PALM OIL. palm oils a very useful vegetable oil that is put into a whole array of different consumer goods. this vegetable oil that is used daily by many is very harmful to the environment. up to 300 football fields of forest are cleared every hour to make room for palm oil plantations. if that isn't bad enough Clearing one hectare (about two square acres) of peat forest can release 6,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide. Indonesia has currently cleared around six million hectares of tropical peat forest plus they have plans to expand by four million more hectares by 2015. in Indonesia, the palm oil industry is responsible for about 5000 land and human rights conflicts. more than 45 million people live in the rainforests of Indonesia. in 2011, a palm oil company bulldozed a while village destroying 40 homes to claim 40,000 hectares of land for palm oil plantations. this is completely insane and not ok. we need to do something about this immediately. in this picture below is a large palm oil plantation.

population pressure is when big companies deliberately drive villagers out of their homes so they can use the land that their village is on and make it into palm oil plantations or other uses that destroy the rainforest. this is a social, economic and environmental impacts as we as people are moving the villagers out(social),we are moving them out purely for money(economic) and it harms the environment(environmental). think of this little boy, who is standing among the wreckage of what used to be his home. how would you feel if that was you? angry? scared? its unacceptable and the government needs to take action immediately.
