         <description><![CDATA[<div>-<em><mark>Elections</mark></em>: Members are elected via district. Districts are based on roughly equal population, which is determined based on the census.<br>50 senators, 120 House Representatives<br>-<em><mark>Qualifications:</mark></em><em> <br></em>House- 21 years (1 year residency)<br>Senate- 25 years (2 year residency) (1 year District Residency)<br>-<em><mark>Leadership:<br></mark></em><strong><em>HOR</em></strong><em>: </em>Speaker of the House: presides over the House of Representatives and makes key appointments.<br><strong>Senate</strong>: Lieutenant Governor is the President of the Senate, the only real thing they do is participate in the tie breaking vote. <br><strong>Senate: </strong>President Pro Tempore is the leader of the senate and they presides over the day to day key appointments. Appoint key positions = standing committees. <br>-The Seniority System (the longest standing person in the majority party).<br>-<em><mark>Sessions: </mark></em><em>The</em><em><mark> </mark></em>General Assembly does short sessions (at least six week) in even number year, and long sessions in odd number years (January-June). Special Sessions can only be called by the governor or by the speaker of the house and president of the senate. <br><em><mark>-Key Legislation: </mark></em>In 2005, the NC State Lottery was created, called the NC Education Lottery. In the 2006 session, the GA approved a new minimum wage hike. In 2016, the HB2= the&nbsp;Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act.</div>]]></description>
