This was a prime example of the uniqueness of each emperors tomb and how it represented their legacy. The textbook says that "the state of Qin launched military campaigns that led to its triumph over other states" this was done by first emperor Shihuangdi. The quote I wanted to describe this the most with was that he was "fearful of both assassination and rebellion" the fear of that would make sense as to why his tomb was filled with these terracotta soldiers to protect him in the afterlife. Since he wasn't much of a religious man and created a legalism approach rather than embrace confucianism or daoism.

The Shang dynasty was the beginning of the bronze age. Vessels like these as the textbook says "Reveal a warrior culture of great splendor..." a vast majority of the art made at this time was specifically for tombs. The splendor of the work was meant to symbolize the royalty and the power of the person in the tomb. The lines on this piece is supposed to show complicated movement every part of this vessel was deeply intended to illustrate the beauty and power of the piece.

These bronze bells were from the tomb of Marquis Yi, like many of the other artifacts found in tombs these bells were used supposedly to communicate with the supernatural. This was also still a time period were bronze art was a major part of the dynasty and culture. The method of creating this intricate bells was using the Lost-Wax Casting technique which was an advancement from the piece-mold technique.

The Han dynasty was a turning point and the art begins to introduce confucian and daoist views. The first is as pictured painting on silk this demonstrated several aspected such as the heavens, sun crows and torch dragons. This shows brush strokes and speed marks again in a way that shows confucian beliefs since it becomes the ideology of the Han dynasty.

There was different types of buddha represented in China. During the Sui dynasty they paid a big tribute to Amitabha Buddha which was the Buddha of the western pure land which was not the same as the historical buddha, Siddhartha. This was beautiful because unlike other buddhas seen in southeast asia this was one was made where you couldn't see buddhas full body and it has lots of dynamic and flowy lines that give it an animated feeling as if they were brush strokes. Brush stroke art was also a very big part of later chinese dynasties.

The tang dynasty is the point where buddhism spread like a mighty wave. This buddha was cut into a living rock similar to southeast asia except the buddha itself had chinese art features to it like the animated look and the robe covering the whole body. This bleeding of ideologies was a result of trade from the silk road not only where actual items traded but so were thoughts and ways of life.

The song dynasty was divided into two regions the north and the south. Paintings were the major art form in this time and artists in northern song were focused on studying nature and mastering all the different components. This artwork was a view of the world and it wasn't something you take in all at once, you see the bigger picture of the waterfall and trees then you look in closer at the possible travelers and the type of trees. The artwork now was a journey through space and time.
