Hi all,

My name is Nick Carraway and I would like to thank all of for coming today. I think this is the hardest thing that I have ever done - put a very close friend of mine to rest. Jay Gatsby (actually James Gatz) was a man of mystery and was extremely nice to everyone and everything. I feel very fortunate to have gotten to know him. There are no words that can explain the pain that has impacted each one of us who call ourselves his friends when Gatsby was shot and killed at his swimming pool on that fateful morning at the age of only 32.

Gatsby was a mystery. I had heard about a man named Gatsby but I never got to meet him until he sent me a invitation to one his parties. At the time I already met Jordan Baker and Tom Buchanan but even they didn’t knew who Gatsby was. The first time that I met Jay was at one of his very vast and majestic parties. When I first got there I made my mission to meet the famous Gatsby who had personally invited me. I asked around for the host but even the people that worked for him didn’t know what he looked like. To solve that problem I got madly drunk, 2 hours went by and I finally met the famous Gatsby. The next day he took me to the city where I got to meet Meyer Wolfshein and began to get a true understanding of what Gatsby does. On the way back from the city he told me he was an Oxford man, a veteran of the army, and that he grew up in North Dakota on his parent’s farm. The one big thing that stuck out to me was that he met a man named Dan Cody when he was a teenager, and how that changed his life. He told me that Cody was the person that really took him in as a son and helped him get the understanding of how to become successful in life. Gatsby never forgot what Cody did for him.

Gatsby was the person that everyone wanted to be. He lived in a mansion in West Egg, expensive cars and a lot of parties. He was a successful bond trader and of course was rumored to have made some money in bootlegging. He taught me a lot and what it is like to live the “New Money” lifestyle. Before the war, Gatsby was the hardworking type and worked until the job was done. Then he was drafted, he told me about all the things he saw and how it was all part of “war”. He told me he single handedly took on an entire battalion of Nazi soldiers and then he showed me his medal that he got for his bravery for fighting the Germans. But the moment I really learned what made Gatsby tick was when he told me about meeting Daisy back when he was in the army. He fell in love and devoted himself to winning her over. This was ultimately his downfall.

The last day I was with Gatsby, it was right after Myrtle Wilson's death. He asked me to stay with him to keep him company and as a friend I stayed with him until the sun started to come up. He said to me “ I haven’t used that pool all summer - how about you take a swim in it with me old sport”. I told him I had to go into work. If I knew it was gonna be my last time being and talking with him I would certainly have joined my friend for a swim. It is very hard for me to say goodbye to you Jay, you made me feel welcomed when I moved to West Egg and you become my closest friend when I needed people in my life. My friend Gatsby helped me see life from a different perspective, how to go after your dreams and live life to the fullest. Goodbye old sport!

For those of you that dont know me, my name is (My name). I was a friend of Gatsby, a man that kept to himself and was able to please so many, a man that knew his goals in life and how he was going to go about completing them. Gatsby was known by so many for his luxurious parties, but to me he was known as a man that was dedicated to his friends and those he loved. Jay lived in the West Egg area surrounded by wealthy friends and his best friend Nick Carraway.

For the people that only knew Gatsby as “Jay Gatsby” it might come as a shock to you that, that wasn't his given name. Jay Gatsby was born James Gatz in 1890 and lived with his mother and father growing up. His mother's name wasn't able to be found, but his father was Henry C. Gatz. Gatsby grew up with very little money in North Dakota and decided one day that he was going to make something of himself. Gatsby’s life before the wealth and fame, he grew up in a household that had very little. When Gatsby was 17 years old, he met a man named Dan Cody which later was the turning point in his life. They met when Gatsby was a clam digger in Lake Superior, there was a massive yacht anchored in the middle of the lake and the owner “Dan Cody” invited young Gatz aboard. Gatsby traveled the world with Cody for the next five years. Dan passed away and left $25,000 to Gatsby, but the woman Dan was seeing at the time stole the money and disappeared, leaving Gatsby penniless.

Gatsby, being left with nothing after Dan passed away, joined the war, and by the end he was promoted to Captain and eventually Major. After the war Gatsby followed the love of his life to New York and eventually was able to make a life for himself. Jay got himself into business with Meyer Wolfsheim, a notorious gangster that led underground organized crime. Though Gatsby was involved in illegal business, the gunshot that led to his death did not come from anyone involved with Meyer Wolfsheim’s affairs, instead it was carried out by George Wilson, located in the Valley of Ashes after there were conspiracies that Gatsby was the one that hit and killed Wilson’s wife with his car. Gatsby was killed in October 1922, he was 32 years old when he was killed. His funeral was held in his West Egg mansion with his close friend Nick being one of the few attendees.

Goodbye old sport...

Jay Gatsby was a self made man. Jay was born James Gatz in 1890 to poor farmers. During his life he was known for going after what he wanted and not being afraid to do so. Jay found a mentor who he learned a great deal from. He briefly attended Olaf College, but had better success learning from his mentor. He lived in West Egg, Long Island.	Jay started off as an assistant on Cody’s yacht and then he became a businessman selling alcohol. Jay was also successful in the army and won many medals. Jay was a hard worker and didn't take no for an answer. He was as tough as nails.	Sadly, Jay only lived to the age of 32. He was shot by George Wilson and found lying dead in a swimming pool. He is survived by his father, Henry Gatz. Jay is buried near West Egg after a brief funeral service. He enjoyed living his life as the rich and famous. Jay enjoyed his life, however short lived. He will be missed.

In Memory of James Gatz We’re gathered here today to celebrate and reflect upon the life of our friend James Gatz, better known as Jay Gatsby, who tragically was shot and killed on the first of September, 1922 at the age of 32. My name is Nick Carraway and I would like to start by saying thank you to all of you for coming and add that I am honored to speak on behalf of Gatsby this morning. Being neighbors and friends with Gatsby, I was fortunate enough to learn a thing or two about him. Gatsby is without a doubt one of the most hardworking, generous, and dedicated men that I have been blessed to have met. Born in the year 1890 to a poor farming family in North Dakota, Gatsby was troubled with adversity from the start. Making his way out of rural North Dakota was a challenge to Gatsby but becoming something more than a farmer was of utmost importance to him. If you knew anything about Gatsby, you knew that he would set goals above and beyond what anyone expected him to achieve. College for Gatsby did not work out as well as expected as he dropped out during his first semester at St. Olaf College and since many claim college is the path to wealth and righteousness, this seemed to be another dead end for Gatsby. Instead of succumbing to the pressures of adversity, Gatsby fed off of it and changed course when meeting a man named Dan Cody who took Gatsby under his wing and acted as a mentor to him and taught him many different ways to be a successful, wealthy man in their time sailing for five years. After this, Gatsby’s beloved mentor Dan passed away and Gatsby found himself at another cross road as war was on the horizon for the United States. Jay Gatsby once again displayed his true character by signing up to fight for our great country and in turn met the love of his life, Daisy Fay. Daisy came from a wealthy family of “old money” and this essentially made it nearly impossible for Gatsby to be with her since there was much stress upon social status. However Gatsby was madly in love and very determined to break the barriers of social classes and set out to obtain wealth of his own based off of what his mentor Dan Cody had taught him. For those of you that did not know, Jay Gatsby succeeded in this and found his way to wealth and bought himself an elaborate mansion in West Egg throwing extravagant parties for all to enjoy and spreading his wealth with friends that attended. This is where him and I crossed paths and without a doubt in my mind Jay Gatsby changed my life in many ways and truly displayed generosity and determination and embodied the idea of working hard for what you want and love. That is why all of you joined here today, September 6th, 1922 to honor James Gatz, son of Henry C. Gatz, a man who embraced life’s highs and lows and learned from every experience and that is why he is and always will be “The Great Gatsby”. Rest in Peace my friend, thank you for everything.

Hello everyone I am a family friend of gatsby,We go way back to the North Dakota days when we would run around the streets as little kids and ran all over the city as teens until he left for Louisville with his lover Daisy Buchanan and when he left for the War in 1917.James was a honorable soldier as fights with distinction in the Argonne Battle, and then is promoted to Captain and then to Major. After I will not lie I didn’t follow gatsby after then, but we soon regained contact when he moved up to West Egg.His parties were so legendary and bright and full of excitement of the dancers and music groups that played, drinks flowing everywhere ,everyone is having a good time, and you’ll never see gatsby out enjoying the fun but rather on his dock near his boat reaching for the green light which I never understood but when I would ask he would always bring up Daisy and how it connected them in some way. Also, to mention that I forgot After the War gatsby attended Oxford for three months and returned to West egg.

He was a inspiration to his peers in wanting to become better and know that there's always room for improvement like he would always say I hopes he would live the American dream with daisy by his side,But sadly not to long ago he was murdered be George Wilson in ruthless fashion.Killed in cold blood in his own house and not only that ,nobody attented the funeral except for me and our good friend Tom.

Jay Gatsby was a very mysterious man to most and had an amazing smile as bright as the sun. Many don't know but his full real name is James Gatz. He was born 1890 and he died in 1922. The man who shot and killed him George Wilson is dead as well. Mr. Gatsby always said how he was an Oxford man but he also attended St. Olaf’s. He was smart not that it was always acknowledged.

He was an army vet who fought to serve for our country. He traded goods and maintained his wealth being a bootlegger. Jay Gatsby accomplished and achieved many great things. He was given many medals and badges for being a courageous leader in the war. Gatsby's father's name was Henry C Gatz. Gatsby wasn't close to any relatives and didn't have any siblings as he was an only child.

Gatsby lived in an amazing mansion which was big enough to have parties which all of new you could join. Gatsby's mansion is worth 17 million and is located in new york. Gatsby was fatally shot and killed at his house. Although people loved to party at gatsby's mansion many didn't show up to his funeral. Gatsby was buried in a cemetary near the west end. Even though Jay Gats had such a tragic ending i still believe that he was a good man who should be loved and respected by many.

Jay Gatsby….Jay Gatsby…. He was a man that i admired so dearly in my heart, his ambitions and the way he saw the world was something that I never could truly understand about him….But i know for sure, that Mr. Gatsby’s greatest quality that he showed me was hope, to believe in the dreams and work towards those dreams, to look into the future instead of live in the present, that was a phenomenal gift. Mr. Gatsby was once a mystery to me until he revealed to me who he truly was. He began his infinite Journey in North Dakota, living on a poor farm ranch with his family. He grew up in the worst conditions until one day he went out to sea to escape it all, borrowed a rowboat and sailed till he met a man named Dan Cody, he saved Dan’s life during a terrible storm by steering the drunken rich sailor to shore on his yacht. This is when his true life began, him and Dan Cody traveled together for a while, and Dan taught Gatsby how to be a gentleman, how to dress appropriate, and how to follow his dreams. This began the creation of Jay Gatsby, before known as James Gatz. Once Dan died Gatsby went his own way, and later on made all his own money, and exploded all over the newspapers around West Egg. He made every second of his life count and never let a single spec of time go to waste, he only saw success, and kept thriving on that success to bring him farther. I was proud to call him my friend, and even more my brother...Gatsby believed in the green light until his end, believed that the future lied towards that green light, and died believing in it. The green light to Gatsby was the future he believed that he would live in with Daisy. He did everything for Daisy, and the only feeling you can truly show for that is admiration! To pursue a dream to the very end is a skill that not a lot of humans can master, and Gatsby once his heart was set, he never let go of that hope. Even though Gatsby has passed, he taught me so much, not only about his own life, but he taught me how to believe, to not live just in that one moment and look to the future and to understand and comprehend how I will reach that future, he taught me that money isn’t the thing that we should believe in… It’s hope. You will be dearly missed Jay Gatsby, and I am so proud of the time we’ve had together, until we meet again in the next life, you will forever live on in my heart...

Dear Gatsby, You were a true great friend to me and when you were my neighbor I used to look at the big gorgeous that you had I thought you would never existed but later went to your house. But the way your personalities were for the first time I met was you were that you such a great person. You have made me feel more happy and every time I saw and hung out with you. Sometimes you were just out of our mind and crazy that people didn’t really like you especially Tom which it really felt you wanted to kill him badly but that was really nice. I know you are funny like the you the way are with Daisy as you throw all the clothes on to her. You are just one kind person that I’ve never seen that is so funny as I see all the time. But I just can’t believe that You kill Myrtle which made George mad and want shoot you when you were having fun in the pool. You were the bestest friend I will ever remember to this date. On this day in October 1922 I saw having fun swimming in the pool ask me come in the pool really things went to worse as you get a call expecting it to be from Daisy but George shows out of nowhere behind and just you with a pistol as he is upset that you killed his wife Myrtle by running, but you had it coming. You were just a young a man that I knew in your 30’s. My feelings go out to you man as the best person ever to be and to be neighbors with. Your inspiration have helped a lot but somethings are just the not the way the have been. Like when I saw George crying I felt really sad and and realized what went through his mind made him not so great person. But my heart goes out to you Gatsby has one of the best friends like I will always say it and never let it go away. You have been sticking by my side most of the time and have hung out with me a lot. I probably would never that is just like you are the only person I know is like the way you are.

I just wanna start out by thanking everyone who came to give our respects at his beautiful home he had designed for one woman. He was a devoted hard working man, who had a dream of his future and what it would be like all in his mind. Everyone knows him as Jay Gatsby but I know him as James Gats. he was hell of a interesting person if I have to say so myself. He was so determined to achieve his goals and be the man he dreamed about being.

Jay Gatsby was born June 2, 1925 and died on august 5, 1942 but just because he isn't here with us doesn't mean his spirit will forever be in our hearts. It was just feels like yesterday when I seen him and he had this thing with calling every “old sport” which i never understood because i was older then the guy. We actually had a conversation about why he said that and we talked for hours about it. He said he picked it up when he was with Henry Gatz.

I first met Gatsby when we were in the army together. When i first seen Gatsby i thought in my head of he won't last a week he’s a pretty boy for sure but he proved me totally wrong. Gatsby actually saved my life once in combat if it wasn't for him I would probably be dead right about now and it would be him instead of me standing here. I remember the day like it was yesterday we were on a mission in WW2 when I let my guard down for just one second then boom just like that I got shot in my shoulder and I couldn't lift my arm up to hold my gun and I thought in my head this is the moment I die . Then here comes this pretty boy standing over me helping me up getting me out of there to safety. I'll remember that day forever and I'm so grateful for him because now I have a beautiful wife and family which would exist if it wasn't for him. All those stories that you heard about the medals and all the people he killed in combat are true he was one hell of a heroic man that gave us freedom and the other rumors like he killed for fun and stuff like that is false. Gatsby respected our country and the people in it but in ways he inspired me when i seen how this man I once thought was just a pretty boy turn out to be a hero and inspirational man.

Now i'd like to talk a lil about Gatsby and his life. Gatsby when he was younger was born into a dirt poor family in North Dakota which many people didn't know because that was a part of his life he didn't like to discuss. He once told me when he was a boy he always told himself that “this life isn't for me i'm better than this and when im older I will be better than this” and that exactly what he was. He started from nothing to now becoming a successful businessman and that's all he would ever do is work and work until his dreams came true and even when he had everything he thought there was more. In the army Gatsby would always tell me about this girl and how she was the one for him and how in love he was with her and how he was going to marry her. He said when I go home im going to better myself then find her and make her my wife. Me and Gatsby would talk a lot I once went over his house and he showed me this green light across the lake and said how green light was where he wanted to be. At the time I didn't understand what that meant but now thinking about it in this moment I do. Gatsby after the army went to oxford but if you ever asked him he would tell you he is not a oxford man because he said “I only went there for a couple months so I can't say I am one”. He was just an amazing person all around and his determination for success is what got him where he wanted to be.

Jay Gatsby what more is there to say about the man other then that i was glad to have him to call my friend and brother. It’s sad that we have to say goodbye this early but things happen and his memories aren't gone or his achievements still exist. I know if he could one last thing right now he’d say not to grieve to live on and reach your goals old sport that life is short so make all your dreams come true . My last words i wanna say is rest in paradise Gatsby and I cant wait till we can have endless conversations.

James Gatz aka Jay Gatsby, 1890-1922. At the age of 32 years old he had been shot by a man that goes by the name George Wilson. His reasoning behind Gatsby death was because Tom had confessed to George that Gatsby was the one that was driving and had hit and killed Myrtle, Georges wife. George was furious, he wanted to kill Gatsby for killing his wife. However Tom had not told George that him and his wife had an affair. Tom through Gatsby under the bus to get back at him and also to cover up his affair with Myrtle.

Gatsby had attended college at st.

Dear Jay Gatsby,

Gatsby was born in the 1890 and passes away when he was only 32. And was shot by a guy named george wilson. Gatsby attended college at st. Olaf and dropped out with in the first two weeks of being in college he didn't like it at all. The way he passes away was very awful none of this should have happened to you nor was it fair at all.

There are many people that love and care about you. You were a very sweet guy that did a lot for people, you were always there for others. You stuck up for others and never let anyone down you stuck up for Daisies accident when she killed myrtle. I don't think anyone could thank you enough for what you do for everyone.

My thought is that if Gatsby was to tell george about Daisy being the one who killed myrtle then i don't think george would have ever killed Gatsby. George will never know that it wasn't him who killed her bc he is now gone i will never forgive george. George now has guilt for murder so he shot himself as well.

Again Gatsby was a very amazing guy and i would do anything to be able to see him again and show how much people loved him. I would take him places to be able to explore. So thank you Gatsby for being you and never being a bad person rest in peace Jay Gatsby.

Family and friends of my good old friend Jay Gatsby, Thank you all for coming and supporting all of those who are mourning his death. This wonderful man started his life in the year of 1890 and lived 32 long years and passed away in the year of 1922. Our dear old friend was shot and killed by George Willson. George was an upset man ever since the accident with his wife that he blamed Gatsby for.

Gatsby was born into a poor family of farmers that lived in North Dakota. He lost his family not soon after he was born. At the age of 17 he met a man by the name of Dan Cody when he went on Dan’s boat. Dan helped him live and tought him how to gain money. Gatsby took what he learned from Dan and took it into his life after Dan had passed.

Our poor friend Gatsby did not deserve this at all. He was such a young kind hearted man and deserved the best. He is now burried next to his house. May his young soul rest in peace and have him throw the best parties up where he is.
