These two tribes settled near the Caribbean sea. This region includes much of present day Colombia and Venezuela. Many of the people there lived in thatched homes made of straw and palm leaves. Farming provided most of their food, but much also came from the sea and rivers. They used to trade their crops in weekly markets in the larger villages. Some of the goods they traded their crops for were cotton, pottery, & gold.

The Chibchas were known for being very politically organized, meaning they had an established form of governing. They broke their land up into districts, and each district had its own chief. Despite the organization, the districts were very weak.

By the 18th century (1700s) the Chibchas and Caribs became part of the modern day society and their culture died out.
