Those who don’t conform to society often experience hate and many other things. When people are wiling to not conform to society, others often look at them differentlyand in a negative way. It is not hard to be a nonconformist but it is hard to have the will and strength to do it. In the time that we live in, being a nonconformist isn’t as hard as it was before, but fore some people it is still hard.

What are the top 5 qualities you admire most in others? Why?

The top 5 qualities I admire most in others are hardworking, considerate, helpful, selfless and assertive. I admire these traits the most because they are some of the hardest traits to have. Being hard working can be difficult, especially when there are so many distractions. Being considerate isn’t something you can choose to have, but being able to care about others is very impressive and something not everyone has. Selflessness is just caring about others and not just yourself, and if you realize someone needs help, you are willing to help them before your self. Being assertive is a trait I admirer because assertive people are usually great leaders becauase they are not scared to show their opinion.

In the book Rocket Boys, Homer H. Hickman, Jr. demonstrates how Sonny feels neglected by his family. Sonny feels that his dad and his brother don’t care about him and he is scared of his father. In some instances in the book, he even ask people why his family doesn’t care about him. For example, on page 43, Sonny ask his mother “why doesn’t [his] dad like [him]” (Hickman)? The fact that he had to ask his own mother this shows that he truly believes his family doesn’t loved him. He shows his families hatred towards him again when explaining why he is happy to not share a room with his brother. He explained that his brother Jim never loved him because he blamed him for the problems his parents had. He announced “Jim never made any pretense of liking or wanting [him] around” (15 Hickman). Homer was very aware of the opinions his family had on him. Later in the book, Sonny shares an instance he feared his father. When Sonny went to talk to his dad about his rockets, his dad barked that “[he] told [him]to stop this (building rockets).” Sonny explained after that he was yelled at by his father, he was scared to reply to his dad. Being scared of your parents isn’t something children should have to deal with growing up. But, because Sonny was fearful of his dad, and felt neglected by his family, he probably felt that family wasn’t important in ones life. All in all, Sonny’s bad relationship with his his family members was probably why he believed that family isn't important in one's life.
