My reflection

In the beginning of the speech I thought this was about how technology affect our daily lives in communicating with other people whether it's verbal or non verbal, but reflecting on it I realized it's not just because of the technology that we are being introverts. People with the "I won't talk to you unless you talk to me first" attitude sometimes reject people who tries to talk them despite the fact they're waiting for that person to talk to them because they're already used to being denied of attention that's making them push others away. In my own observations even if we are face to face with someone we want to be with, we tend to avoid being the first one to initiate a conversation and find ourselves scrolling through our Facebook, this happenes when we have too much pride to volunteer and talk first. I agree with Ma'am Sherry Turkle when she said devices take us to places we don't want to go, as how I understood it social media is giving people impressions of who we are which may be wrong in how we view ourselves and may give us bad reputations. I understood the word "place" in the statement as your status, people would undoubtedly misunderstand you if you only socialize through the internet with your device yet without socializing in person. Technology doesn't really show the emotion, yes we do have emojis but people don't give much importance to it unlike your real emotions. In my opinion the existence of introverts these days are born from people being rejected by others, after being rejected they start to seek attention and they get it from machines as what was mentioned in the speech, the illusion of companionship. Saddening as it maybe lots of people choose to have their words unspoken because of the judgmental world that is making them lose interest in real conversations, for some it took a leap of courage to speak themselves out and felt the warmth of the real conversation, we can't ignore the fact this does not apply to everyone and sometimes it should be us to reach out and help these people grow. In my own experience I was deprived of having a normal family and its probably the reason why I'm like a bean sprout still developing, because the basic lesson in conversations start around the table with your parents, siblings, and the food. Children with a broke family are mostly silent, unspoken, and less friendly, having a single parent is not something they chose to have but being silent is not the only choice they have specially if no one is willing to reach out to you all you need is a leap of courage to learn how to do conversion because in order to survive this world in this age you need to work with others and working with others is simply impossible without you talking to them, chatting with them, and without relying on mobile phones.
