It is held on the first Tuesday of November each year and is described as the ‘race that stops a nation'.

It is very much part of Australian culture especially in Melbourne and it is an opportunity for people to catch up with family and friends and relax for the day.

Watching the race on TV or at the racecourse and having a bet is a tradition for most Aussies. The people who go to the racecourse wear beautiful clothes and it is a tradition for women to wear nice hats.

This year the winning horse was called GOLD TRIP and was a French horse !! A great proof of the French Australian relationship :)

We are now officially on our summer holidays until end of January! This time of year many houses have lovely decorations, and you will even see some snowmen even though it is summer here! We are preparing for our Christmas celebrations, and we often go to Christmas Carols events in the park. Our Christmas party will be on 25th for lunch and many families typically do a barbecue and have some fun on the beach. The traditional dessert for Christmas is the Pavlova, a meringue cake with mixed fruit and cream, and also the traditional Christmas pudding which is an English tradition. Like in France, we eat a lot!
