         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>According to Hyde (2012)&nbsp;<em>'A major challenge for many students when they enter a university in the Uk is that of becoming a self-motivated and self-directed student.'<br></em><br></div><div>The materials in this unit explore what is independent learning and its importance when studying in a UK university.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>T<strong>he aims of the materials are:</strong></div><ul><li>To introduce the concept of independent (autonomous) learning for students studying in a UK&nbsp; university.&nbsp;</li><li>To examine what is&nbsp; independent learning, provide examples of autonomous learning in a university context and demonstrate why it an important skills for&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;undergraduate students to develop.&nbsp;</li><li>To enable students&nbsp; to undertake research into the topic, then discuss their findings and ask questions in a group discussion.&nbsp;</li><li>To develop skills in time management skills and techniques to help enable self directed study.</li></ul><div>&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>
