my mask actually came from a comic I saw the week before we started - Picasso's mother was upset that little Pablo got a bad grade in art - she said that she must talk to the teacher! and the mother's face was distorted, just like the typical picasso face - en face and profile at the same time. coloring the mask was more of a challenge, but I decided to go with cubism to the end, and gave it a Mondrian feeling.

- Are you satisfied with the result?

honestly the result is not exactly what I hoped for. The colors came out much darker than I expected. I wanted the blue, red, yellow - to be very "primary". All in all the concept is reached, and for a beginner's I think I did pretty well. My family is excited.

- What would you do differently if you were to redo the project?

If I had to redo the project, I would have spent more time smoothing and refining the clay. It is quite bumpy, although the glaze seems smooth enough.

I would also explore colors more, maybe try to find how to get the stronger primary colors.

Especially I was hoping that the yellow color would be more bright, and the green and blue be less dark.

- Does your mask convey the idea that you intended? What was that idea?

My idea was to be both funny and unique, and although both my inspiration artists did it better than me, I am quite satisfied with how I ended up.

I would say that I am satisfied with the final product, even though the glaze color turned out darker than I initially thought it would. If I were to redo the project, I would dilute the green glaze base coat with some more white and yellow to make it lighter before splattering the specks of other colors on it. Also I pressed a piece of mesh fabric into the wet clay to create a scaly texture, I think I could have pressed it deeper because it wasn't that visible once it was covered with glaze and fired. Other than that, I like how it turned out and I am contemplating making a dangly piece of jewelry to hang from the nose piercing.

My mask conveys the fantasy sci fi vibe I was going for, I think the gold enamel was a great finishing touch. I'm a firm believer in the fact that if merpeople were real, they would not look like our fictional depictions of a seductive woman with a fish tail - it doesn't make sense from an evolutionary standpoint. I think they would look a lot more animalistic in nature and have physical adaptations to help them survive in the depths of the ocean. This is why I added the forked tongue, the large nose, the eyes going in separate directions, the scales, and the third eye.

Overall, I like the result, but the surface treatment is not quite what I expected. I was hoping for more variation in the metallic black glaze (I wiped it back to achieve the variation I achieved in a piece last semester, but this time I only got pure black and nearly pure grey.) I was also hoping for a more intense eye, but I didn’t use enough glass to fill the eye socket after melting. Overall, those results make the mask feel harsher, less human, and more robotic than I intended.

If I redid the project, I would leave some of the carved parts untreated (instead of iron oxide) and use a glaze that wipes back in a more satisfying way. I would also use more glass in the eye.

My original idea was to convey the fluidity of the self and the interconnection of the interior and exterior self. Even though the mask looks very different from my sketches, and overall less human because of the surface treatment issues described above, I believe it still conveys that idea. In some ways, the form conveys the idea even better than my plan because the half-face connecting interior and exterior of self is enhanced by the unintentional break in the piece, and the curves creating fluidity are enhanced by the placement of the broken pieces in relation to each other.

I am very satisfied with the results. I loved how the glaze came out and the chipped horns gave it great detail. I absolutely love it for my first time making this mask.

The only thing I would change is the glaze I used. But everything else I would not change.

The mask definitely conveyed the ancient curse mask type I was going for. I love it a lot.

1. How did you come up with your idea? I came up with my idea by first looking at many different styles of masks and mixing that with my own art style. I started drawing just a base face then proceeded to add more details and accessories. 

2. Are you satisfied with the result? Not really. It came out way darker than I expected which made me lose a lot of the details I had added. Overall I don’t think it was that bad. 

3. What would you do differently if you were to redo the project? I would’ve used a lighter color for the underglaze or maybe try the more matte glazes. 

4. Does your mask convey the idea that you intended? What was that idea? I think it conveys the meaning I wanted it to. I wanted people to look at the mask and feel unsettled or intrigued. The expression on her face is one of almost sadness or pain. Mixed with the multimedia pieces I hope people will question what type of person she is or what type of life has she lived.

I am more than satisfied with the results of this mask, I was really nervous about its outcome and it came out beautifully, hence the name. Hah.

I would probably do the painting and coloring much better, as evident by the fake lashes over the eyelids, but all is well in the end.

The mask itself, I believe, conveys more than I expected and in all honesty, I’d like to leave it up to interpretation. It’d be interesting to me to hear what others think of it.

• Conical hat: is a style of conical-shaped sun hat, it is kept on the head by a cloth or fiber chin strap, and an inner headband. It is made of straw or woven material 

I ended up really liking how this piece came out! this is one of the first 3d projects that has matched the ideation as closely as I wanted it to.

Although, I would tweak the proportions just a bit more and if I had known more about the type of glazes I would be able to work with I wouldn't have underglazed the mask so thoroughly. You live and learn I suppose.

In the end the result lead to that same simple concept I initially thought of and gives me more confidence to take on more ambitious ideas that are less grounded on existing content

Not sure that i am, i’m a little disappointed with how streaky the blue glaze is and how the mask suddenly has dots all over the place which kind of ruins the porcelain look i sas going for

Probably add more blue glaze and not use oxide for the flower bits as they look too dark

I feel like it does has it looks like porcelain based on how i painted it just that on some parts i feel like i should’ve painted more glaze on top

I saw different kinds of pictures on pinterest and then as well as seeing the joker masks from the "Dark Knight" and they intrigued me and the spider I just like spiders so I decided to add it for fun.

I am because it looks so cool and worn out which was what I wanted.

Maybe add more detail on the spider and make it look different. Or even fix the stitching up.
