The information that I found in the Exposition was that the main character, Conor, was a thirteen year old boy that has always had these nightmares while his mother is getting treatment for her cancer. One night he wakes up from one of his normal nightmares and hears his name being called by something. He thinks that it sounds like all these other people he knows but it really isn't. He figures out that it's coming from outside by the yew tree his mother speaks of all the time. The yew tree at one point starts to transform into a monster that is trying to scare Conor, but Conor isn't afraid, he even gives the scary monster attitude
. The chapter ends with the monster taking Connor and eating him alive. Conor's life experiences have impacted him for many reasons. First, his dad left to America and got remarried, so that made Conor kind of mad at his dad. Second, Conor's mom is sick and isn't getting any better so he has to visit his grandma a couple times and he is very upset about that because he doesn't like his grandma. And third, He gets bullied at school and he has to deal with this Lily girl trying to help him when in reality he doesn't want her help because she betrayed him. These three problems affect Conor's actions because he acts like he's fine with only him and his mom even though his grandma says he shouldn't be cleaning or making his breakfast without being told to. In this part of the story, Conor finds out his grandma is going to come to his house to help and that meantime he'll be losing his room to her too. He is upset about that and also learns that his mom isn't doing really good at all and that he has to stay with his grandma for a while. The tree tells him the first story, which confuses Conor the whole time because of how the tree reacted to the whole story and why he did what he did.

In the third tale, Conor is in school and Harry says that Conor is now invisible to him. The monster starts telling Conor the third story and it goes with what Conor is doing to not be invisible anymore. The tale is about an invisible man who didn't want to be invisible anymore so her did something super drastic that people saw him now. The tales that Conor is being told about all have something to do with what he's been experiencing. The first tale is about a prince that was too young to take over his grandfather's kingdom so the king had to remarry. The king suspiciously dies so the new queen takes over and hasn't been doing any good for the kingdom. The prince falls in love and runs away with his love. In the morning the prince finds the farmer's daughter dead and it turns out he kills her but he says the queen kills her. The tree awakens and helps get the prince back to his kingdom and rule while the queen has to be burned like a witch would be, but the tree Monster ends up saving her and letting her go back to her old village. This connects to Conor b/c he sees that even though someone isn't good, they don't deserve to die or be punished for that. And that if someone does something bad for a certain reason, they need a good reason to do that bad thing. Conor is still confused about why the tree saved the evil queen even though she was supposedly a witch. The second story is about an Apothecary and how this Parson was saying things about him and once the Parson's beloved daughters become sick, the Apothecary is asked to help. He doesn't. Once the daughters die that night b/c they couldn't get help, The tree awakens. Instead of going to the Apothecary's house, he goes to the Parson's house and destroys everything. This connects to Conor's life b/c he was confused why the Monster went to the Parson's house and the monster said b/c he ruined business for the Apothecary and wouldn't give anything up, like the yew tree, and then went to the Apothecary and then would give up everything to save his daughters. This also connects to Conor's life b/c the monster convinced Conor to destroy his grandma's house and told him how satisfying it was. The third tale connects the most to Conor's life for many reasons. This tale is being told while Conor is beating up his bully that was pretending like he didn't exist. The story is about a man that didn't want to be invisible anymore so he did something to be seen for once.

The Movie is pretty much meeting my expectations, but it's a bit different. The movie is different to what I expected b/c the book talks about how sick Conor's mom is usually and then she seems alright but with just shorter hair. If I could re-cast one of the characters from the beginning part of the movie, it would probably be Conor's mom. That's b/c she doesn't seem so sick, even though her medicine wasn't working how it was supposed to already.
