Step 2: In the center is a candle burning. There is a person in the background who is not really visible. To the right of the candle is a window, but you can't really make out anything in the background. The background is black and white and the flame is in color.
Step 3: The artist uses space as the element of design. The candle takes up the center of the photo. There is not much going on so the space is taken up with 3 objects. The picture uses up the space in the photo with mainly the candle. It is a simple photo with nothing in the space happening beside the flame.
The artist uses unity as the principle of design. The viewer looks at the candle and flame as a whole before looking at the candle and flame separately. The are separate parts to the photo, but you look at it as a whole before individual elements making the whole. 
Step 4: The beauty within a flame. Fire is not all bad, it can be used for light and warmth. In this case the fire is used for light and decoration. Fire is light, so the background is without color. 
Step 5: This picture is good. The simplicity of the whole picture is calming and the brain doesn't have to work as hard to figure out what's happening. Personally, I would not change the photo. I like the idea of the flame and candle being the only color in the picture. It is a clever idea with a message that does make the brain work harder to figure out.
