Giving a lei is a great gift that represents the host culture of Hawai'i and is fitting for most occasions, especially graduation. Lei can be made from almost anything.... foliage (and other natural materials) is more traditional and great for compost, but you can use almost anything, including paper, string, candy, and money. The fact that you made it yourself makes it even more special, and online examples and tutorials are plentiful! Plumeria is one of my favorites because it's easy to make and easily found all over.
