I would validate the concern, "I am also concerned about this grade" and then give the next steps (reteach group in the classroom, bringing up to specialists during a data review, work/practice that can be done at home to help review). Bring up that in the future that one of the best ways to support your child would be to put a system in place so that their homework can get done at home. "I would love to work together to come up with a plan to best support your child at school and at home".

We would wait 24 hours to call back. We would acknowledge their concern. We would touch on the missing homework to come up with a plan to get homework turned in. Work together to come up with a plan and remind the parent that we are a team with a common goal to support their child.

Validate their feeling by saying you too are concerned. Let the parent know that this score doesn't affect honors math chances. Scan the homework missed and send it to the parent letting them know that the student can still complete this work, and it will help them practice and reinforce the skills missed in the assessment.
