Benny: But who knows the secret history of Sarona, what lies beneath the surface?

 

sigal: I do

 

Benny: And I do too  , and we are from the Amal Shevach Mofet School, and today we will show you the Cell Aviv Sarona project. 

 

sigal: The Cell Aviv (Tel Aviv on the cell phone) project, Sarona track, was developed by us, students at Amal Shevach Mofet together with students at the ON School for children with disabilities and cerebral palsy, and all our joint work was done with an emphasis on accessibility for people with special needs, as a contribution to the community

 

Benny: As part of the effort to make the project accessible, videos are made accessible to help the visually impaired (yellow lettering on blue), those who are hard of hearing (using sign language) and people with Attention Deficit Disorders (short and clear films). We leave the final products as a donation to the city of Tel Aviv, with all the populations in mind.

 

sigal: By scanning the QR code, everyone can enjoy the unique experience and get an information channel directly to the user's personal cellphone!

 

Benny: The project is ongoing.  During the first year, we produced seven information stations, and last year we added another five. Some of the stations dealt with the history of the Templars in the 19th century; some, with the struggle by the underground to establish the State of Israel, and some had to do with secret affairs after the establishment of the state, when the name Sarona was changed to HaKirya (the campus).  Which campus? The young government’s compound.

 

sigal: During our work, students from both schools met at Sarona for joint tours of the area, and we kept in touch through a Whatsapp group and the Padlet collaboration app. We worked a tremendous amount in our entrepreneurial center, in an informal and free atmosphere. We interviewed key people such as Yaakov Kedmi, past head of Nativ and Shai Farkash, who preserves wall paintings, and was responsible for all the conservation and restoration work at the Sarona complex.

 

Benny: Last year, we won the innovation and entrepreneurship prize from the Tel Aviv Municipality, and three months ago at a festive ceremony, our signs about the project were added, and they await you!

 

sigal:  So next time, before you run to the Sarona Market, look for our maps at the Visitors Center, scan our signs that are found on the walls of the buildings, and discover the secret Sarona!!

 

Benny: What next? This year, we are working with the ONN school on a new track – Ahuzat Bayit - the first neighborhood established by the founders of Tel Aviv! (Herzl Street, Rothschild Boulevard), in collaboration with Gutman Museum. Stay with us !
