I am a Professor of Education in Learning, Diversity, and Urban Studies. I'm originally from Brasil and immigrated to the US as an adult. My research centers at the learning ecologies of immigrant students; family and community resources in diverse urban in- and out- of school contexts; and partnerships between family-community-school-university that support the literacy learning of linguistically diverse learners and emphasize educational opportunity and equity. I have taught in public schools in Brazil and the US and have worked with researchers in Chile, Brazil, and Mexico on implementing ecological models of community development.

Hi! I am the Talent Development director at the Louisiana State Civil Service. I lead a group of learning and development professionals who do everything e-learning design to competency modelling to live facilitation. I'm super passionate about making learning effective, helping our learners reach their goals, and improving our state through its workforce. I wanted to add a bunch of pics, but if I could choose just one, I guess this is a good one. I love finding the unexpected in people, and I love surprising them. I think the most fun I've had is riding into work on this thing wearing a pink business suit.

I have an MS in Health Care Administration and am the Accreditation Manager for the University at Buffalo medical school where I help manage accreditation oversight of UB's 67 residency and fellowship programs. Maine is one of my favorite places on Earth and is where I completed my BA in English (go, Black Bears). I love to travel and most recently (pre-COVID) went to New Foundland. One of the hardest things about quarantine for me has been missing my family, who are in Syracuse.

I am a constant reiteration of myself at this point in my life. I began my professional career as a teacher and then administrator as a principal in high schools and then shifted 8 months ago to a life in corporate America at FedEx Freight. Shifting and reiterating has been part of my life at Fed Ex Freight as well. First, with shifting economies in the trucking industry I had to shift programming due to spending cutbacks at the company this fiscal year. Then, with COVID 19, we have had to iterate again for all of our learning and development models. Managing L&D has required us to reiterate who we are as L&D and what we do. This has turned into an opportunity to work with the entire department on why iteration matters - and the impact that change has on organizations. I have created and will launch later this week a Leading and Learning through change webinar series that will go out to the entire company - so lots of online delivery to thousands of employees as we lean into change.

From that point on, I've had the travel bug and haven't stopped moving. I grew up in Missouri, lived for 8 years in New York and now 5 years on California. I'm already itching to move again.

When I was a child, I played cabbage patch dolls secretly until sixth grade and always had at least six pretend babies. I always wanted to be a mother. I now have three kids and although there are days when I want nothing more than to be alone, I actually really like being around kids. Except I don't want to be a teacher!

I am most happy in front of hundreds of people. I love speaking, and I am most satisfied after leading a large group session.

I teach as an adjunct professor at a local Jesuit university and have used the opportunity to explore through experience the concepts and ideas we are learning in this program. My personal philosophy is that experience is the very best teacher and that learning how to navigate through difficulty and hardship helps develop critical thinking and problem solving skills.
