Sometimes it is a general info question or statement like I will not use onLine translators or I know the course ends on May 26th. Other times I ask questions that help me get to know the students better, what are your plans for break or share a picture of your pet (they love this one). These personal ones provide great celebration material. I record all of the names and the current avg. of the student on note. I then divide the list by failures and passing students. Every couple of days I scan the avgs in the gradebook to see if the students avg has changed.
