Current fetal monitoring involves a patient being in a clinic or hospital setting and having monitors applied to them by a health care worker.

Some hospitals now offer more flexibility in their monitoring capabilities with use of external electrode monitors such as the novii.

INVU offers a cutting-edge new age approach to this same system, where a portable monitor can be worn in the comfort of patient's homes (Nuvo, n.d.).

INVU is FDA approved for pregnancies 32 weeks and greater for external fetal monitoring outside of the clinic or hospital.

Clinical trials have shown the INVU monitoring system has Fetal Monitoring capabilities that are comparable to the standard ultrasound and toco system used in hospitals now (Schwartz et al., 2022)

This innovation may keep high risk pregnancies that need regular fetal monitoring out of the hospital and in the comfort of their home longer that previously established methods of care.

The INVU sounds like a great idea to clear beds in already full hospitals and clinics, but still require someone to interpret the tracings so I am unsure if this is really saving staff time or adding more to their plate.

It seems like some hospitals are adapting it seamlessly and it is helping them monitor more patients, but there is no proven need to monitor, even high-risk pregnancies for long term. The more we monitor the more we intervene, and this is not always a positive thing.
