The adventure I chose to complete is the French wordle. From doing the wordle, I learned that I had to really think about what five letters words existed in French. I looked around the room for words that I could guess that had the letters the first word included. I guessed a random word that included the letters and next thing I knew, I had got the wordle! This experience has given me a lot of confidence that if I put the effort in, I can learn a lot of the French language! I loved doing the French wordle adventure today and can’t wait for the next adventure to choose!

For my first French Adventure assignment, I chose to do the French Wordle. Though I don't know many French words, this option sounded fun, since I regularly do Wordle. To choose my guesses, I looked through my French notebook for 5-letter words with many vowels. Eventually, I only needed one more letter, so I tried every letter and only one went into the system. This was the correct guess. This assignment was pretty fun and simple, and it also made me look into my past units to find words that I could use!

Fairy Tale

For my French Adventure assignment I chose to read a fairytale. The fairytale I chose was called "Le Petit Chaperon Rouge” (also known as The Little Red Riding Hood). I thought it was interesting reading a story that I already knew so I could use that knowledge to figure out what words ment. I also learned that quotation marks are used the same way as in English. In this story Little Red Riding Hood had to give a basket of food to her grandma but she ends up wandering off and getting eaten by a wolf with her grandma. Soon after a hunter comes by and saves them and Red learns to not talk to strangers. I liked this fairytale and I think that it teaches a good lesson.

For my first choice board activity, I chose to do the French Wordle. This activity interested me because I have been practicing French for quite some time now and wanted to test my ability to use my vocabulary. I didn't initially have much hope for my performance on this task since I am not familiar with a huge amount of specifically 5 letter words but after using one from class and another two from my recent memory, I got it! I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to achieve this and would love to continue trying it since it seems like good practice. Overall this was a fun assignment, especially for my first week.

For my first French Adventure, I chose to do a French Wordle. While reading the options, I felt that doing a Wordle would not only be fun but also engaging and enjoyable. So, while using prior knowledge, and Google, I thought of a few 5 letter words. The words I used consist of ..., and the correct answer, .... I learned a lot from this experience, and I definitely will continue to do French Wordles! Below is the attached file of my completed Wordle.

The Egyptians are originally credited with creating perfume. However, French perfume is a key part of French culture and economy. The French perfume industry first began in the late 1700s. L.T. Piver created the first perfumery in France, ''À la Reine des Fleurs''. However, the French Revolution caused a huge pause in perfume production, as the economy couldn't support it. After the French Revolution, the perfume industry in France boomed. It was seen as a more achievable luxury even the middle class could afford. So, in 1899, the first modern perfume, Jicky, was created. Ever since then, the French people adopted the perfume industry and France became the "Perfume capital of the world". Some of the most famous French perfumes are Chanel No. 5 (1921), J'adore Dior (1999), Lancôme La Vie Est Belle (2014), and most recently, Hermès Twilly d'Hermès (2017).

For my first French Adventure I chose the wordle. Although I do not know many five letter French words I thought it would be a good challenge to learn new words. At first I chose a random word to see if I could figure anything out which I did and got a letter on my first try. After that I tried to think of any words that we have learned with that letter in place which did not really work. I do not do Wordle so it was a good stretch for me and to see what five letter French words I could figure out. After a while on my last try I used the process of elimination and found all the combinations possible for the word and after a few tries I found and figured out the Wordle for the day. It was very tough but I gained a lot of experience and knowledge to be able to guess the right answer.

For my first French Adventure I chose to do a French wordle. I started by using words I already knew and I was able to quickly find letters. I was able to use the letters that had been eliminated to then discover the final word. I thought that this was fun, and I enjoyed how it tested my vocabulary and problem solving skills.

French Perfume

In France, they are very well known for their perfumes. One of the biggest companies Coco Chanel or also known as Chanel was actually invented in France. Coco Channel is one of the biggest perfume retailers in the world. It is not just in Europe it has traveled to many places outside of where it originated. Coco Channel is carried in many different retail shops such as, many makeup stores (sephora and ulta) , big box stores (macys and nordstrom) and also in some of the many chanel stores around the world. Chanel perfume was found by Coco Channel, who was a French fashion designer and also a business woman. She introduced her first perfume, Chanel No.5, which was first introduced in 1921. To this day, Coco Chanel has been voted for one of the top ten best perfumes of all time. There are many other brands of perfume which are not as popular and as high end but Coco Chanel is a very big industry that happened to come from France.

I chose French fashion because I wanted to learn about all the French designers and what French people like to wear. I learned that most French people like to wear neutral colors and like to look elegant. Some clothing items French people like to wear during the fall and winter include: blazers, trench coats, heeled boots, classic sweaters, and jeans. Also, Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Celine Vipiana, Louis Vuitton, and Christian Louboutin are all very popular French designers. French people’s style is very different from here because people in France like to dress elegantly and classic all the time and people here wear jean shorts and a shirt or sweatpants and a shirt. Some new words I learned while researching this topic were manteau and bottes.

researched foods that are from France. I learned that the origin of French cuisine goes back to the Middle Ages. The first known French recipe was in the 14th century. At this time it consisted of banquets of the wealthy, and they would serve all the dishes together and add it in a decorative way. Certain ingredients, such as haricot beans, only became used in French cooking after the discovery in the Americans. France is home to some of the most recognizable dishes on the planet from soups, meats,vegetables, and deserts. Their pastries and baking are the most famous. I can say that croissants, baguettes, and broche are their bread culture. You can't think about bread without thinking of France. Macrons is one of the most famous desserts(my personal favorite). Wine and cheese are also very popular. Therefore, French foods are highly recognizable and delicious.

I learned a few French words from this Wordle. I did not know that cines was a word in French (meaning movie). I also did not know that the word mince was French too (meaning thin). Habit means clothing in French, notre means our, and a crepe is a French food. I think that this is a good way of learning French words in a fun way.

It has been said that she assisted over a million soldiers with her X-ray units to help locate and treat shrapnel in their bodies. Also, did you know that Marie Curie had a pet tiger. That's one of the many reasons why she's so unique.

Fairy Tale

For my first French adventure project, I chose to read a fairy tale: Boucles d'Or et les trois ours (Goldilocks and the Three Bears). I read this story because I already knew the storyline, so if I applied what I already knew about the story and compared the words from French and English, it would help me learn more words and understand them. For example, the story kept saying the word “ours” which means bear in French so by the time I was done comparing/reading the story to English I learned the word ours meant bear by seeing it so much throughout the story. The storyline of this book is Goldilocks a story about a little girl who is looking for the best place to stay. She went into the three bears' homes and tried out three porridges, three chairs, and three beds finding the one that fits her perfectly. I would highly recommend this story because it is easy to understand and has good basic French vocabulary for beginners like me.

I choose to read Les Trois Petitis Cochons also known as The Three Little Pigs. This fairytale is about 3 little pigs (Cochons), who all live together with their mom, who kicks them about because she does not have enough food for all of them. The little Chochons go separate ways and end up all building houses. One straw, one wood, and one brick. But, there is a naughty wolf (Loup) who wants to eat the Cochons, and will blow their houses down. But the brick is too strong, and the Loup is out of breath and can't blow it down. In the end, the Loup ends up falling down the chimney and into the burning soup below it. The wolf ran away into the deep dark forest. I would recommend this book because it is very fun and it can help you understand basic french words, because of the low reading level of this book.

Louis Pasteur was a French scientist that made a groundbreaking discovery. He discovered that microorganisms cause fermentation and disease. Therefore, he invented the process of Pasteurization which is used to preserve liquids or food by heating them at a high temperature, then rapidly cooling them back to the cold, original temperature. This process is used to kill the germs and microorganisms that give us disease. This was a very important discovery as we still use it today, keeping everyone safe.

Henri Becquerel was a French physicist who is known for the discovery of radioactivity. And he shared the discovery of how to isolate and purify the element polonium with Marie Curie and Pierre Curie and they all won a Nobel Prize in 1903. A unit was named after him called the Becquerel(Bq) which is the unit for radioactivity. He also accidentally discovered that uranium salts spontaneously emit a penetrating radiation that can be registered on a photographic plate. He died of a heart attack on August 25, 1908 at the age of 55 in Le Croisic, France.

For my second weekly French project, I chose to watch the French cartoon, "La Brigade des contes de fées - Épisode 1 - Pinocchio en Détresse." Using WordReference I was able to infer that this translates to "The Fairy Tale Brigade - Episode 1 - Pinocchio in Distress." As the episode began, one word I immediately recognized was "travaille" which I believe means "work." Then, after the initial conflict is revealed, the episode cuts to one of the protagonists, a male detective named Johnny Legend with a very big ego. He then runs into another one of the protagonists, another detective who introduces herself (Je m'appelle) as "Chris Andersen." Seconds later, an older lady who seems to be some sort of fairy appears. One word she said that I recognized was "seulement" which means "only." Soon, our protagonists are called into the room of their boss where Johnny, at one point, says "oui chef" which translates to "yes boss" to my knowledge. Chris and Johnny then exit the building, a witch flies over their head, and several fairy tale characters pass by. When they arrive at the scene, Chris and Johnny find a living wooden hand that points to certain objects in the room, giving them clues.

Chris arrives back at her work building and enters a messy lab with a variety of technology. Meanwhile, Johnny Legend, an absolute genius, falls down a chimney of the three little pigs' house. In a panic, Johnny beams his magic wand but hits a mirror which reflects the beam onto him, turning him into a wolf. The pigs attack Johnny. After a long stretch of not hearing any recognizable words, I heard "victim" and "mal." Victim, while I'm not sure that is the correct French spelling of the word, translates to "victim." On the other hand, "mal," a Latin root, is also a French word that means bad or unwell. Chris, back at the lab, flies to Johnny by broom and in doing so is attacked by an evil witch several times. After concluding the truth of what happened to Pinocchio, Chris and Johnny find and imprison Pinocchio until his creator comes to pick him up. Unfortunately, the evil witch uses magic to unlock, free, and steal Pinocchio from his cell. The words I recognized in this scene were "petit" and "garçon." "Petit" means "small" and "garçon" means "boy." Chris and Johnny race to save Pinocchio but Chris ends up staying behind with the lab scientist and old lady from earlier. They do some research and find out who stole Pinocchio. Johnny finds the thief and confronts her but doesn't have enough evidence to take in the witch. Chris, again, flies over by broom. A phrase I recognized in this section was "quelque chose" or "something." The protagonists face off against the evil witch and after some clever tricks, they win, saving Pinocchio from being shredded. The last phrase I recognized was "Pourquoi moi?" This translates to "Why me?"

Overall, I really enjoyed watching this cartoon, though I didn't understand a large portion of the words used, it was still fun to listen to the ones I did know. The plot and style were surprisingly not far off from those of American kids' media from when I was younger, making this almost nostalgic with the bold similarities. This activity I enjoyed and I would do it again next quarter if given the chance.

The French public school system is very different from America’s. First, they do not have school on Wednesdays. Additionally, their school is much more difficult than American schools. Lastly, College is free in France. Clearly, education in France is not very similar to America’s.

Frances culture in food is one of the main reasons tourists go to France. Eating out at a restaurant is a big part in french culture, on the weekends, and even during the week, people take friends and family out to dinner. French people eat a lot of bread, for breakfast and lunch, but almost never for dinner. Cheese is also a huge part of their culture, each person eats around 25 kilos a year. And french people eat more fish than they do meat.

For my second French choice assignment, I chose to research French food. The specific food that I researched is pot-au-feu, the national dish. It consists of boiled meats and vegetables, with broth typically served first, followed by the meats. The meaning of pot-au-feu's origin is pot on fire, which is fitting since it is crafted by boiling its ingredients. I have never tried pot-au-feu, but it was very enriching and interesting to research it.

I researched France's food history for this week’s Choose Your Own Adventure. Here are some of the things I learned about the croissant:

-In 1915, Sylain Goy invented the first-known French version of the croissant recipe (previously the croissant was Austrian and very different from the French version)

-National Croissant Day is on January 30^th. It has been celebrated for almost 20 years!

-The croissant got its name from the word “crescent”.

The history of fashion in France was originally influenced by King Louis XIV. He wore extravagant clothes that people recognized and appreciated. Something that is unique about french fashion is the art of effortless elegance. It is classic, chic and there is even a famous quote from Coco Chanel, she said “French fashion isn't just about clothes; it's a whole way of living,” Although King Louis XIV was the start, Rose Bertin was generally recognized as the first famous fashion designer because she was Marie Antoinette's dressmaker from 1770 to 1793. The symbol of french fashion all across the world is the beret. It is the most used piece of clothing for French people.

King Louis XVI's reign of terror was a key moment in the French Revolution. It ended when he was executed on January 21, 1793. The French Revolution was a period of major social upheaval that began in 1787 and ended in 1799. It sought to completely change the relationship between the rulers and those they governed and redefine the nature of political power. Not only did it end the feudal system, disband a kingdom and its monarchy, and establish civil laws and fairer representation of all peoples under governance, but it also served to unify and strengthen France as a country and a people. It separated Church and State for the first time in Europe. It reformed family law, giving women and men equal inheritance, secularizing marriage, and permitting divorce for the first time in France. It criminalized violence against women.

I did the draw/sculpt/paint like a famous french artist! I chose Claude Monet because I love his style of making art and how he uses the elements of the planet in his paintings. I love how he makes it look real but still looks like a painting. He is very clever with his colors and is excellent at blending! I thought Claude Monet’s work was very pretty and he inspired me!

The history of french architecture:

It all began in the Roman period with designs such as the Galo-Roman design like the Maison Carrée. The roman period also was the start of the emergence of concrete and arches. Then in the 5th century lots of importance was put on churches so architecture was more sacred. The first unified style to arise in europe was the Romanesque style.

This was a more gothic style which popularly were decorated with pinnacles and long spirals.

Then renaissance spread all over from Italy.
