One major cause of the American revolution was money. Colonist didn't like being taxed on daily goods that they once were shipped for free and were needed in order to survive, so they boycotted. In order to get Britain's attention they formed a secret organization called the sons of liberty to protest against the stamp act, which lead to an other cause to the revolution. The Sons of Liberty hoped to have protested enough against these taxes so that Britain would eventually leave them alone
Britain wanted to tighten power in the colonies and presented them what are known as the intolerable acts. These acts took away certain political freedom away from the colonies and Britain was now in control of the colonies. The intolerable acts made the colonist furious and decided to rebel against the British. The First continental congress took place in 1774 in order to present the complaints by forming a governing body. This made the colonist believe that with a governing body and a formal document stating their concerns they will have more power to negotiate with Britain.
