After that, it goes to the perspective of Jerome, but he is ALIVE. He is a black boy who loves to play basketball, but had no friends. It gives you insight on both sides. He goes to school, meets a friend from Texas, and fights off some bullies. He also meets Emmett Till as a ghost, as well as the daughter of the cop that murdered Jerome. Her name is Sarah. A theme I thought shown through was the theme of, Think Before you Act. When the Officer shot Jerome, you could tell he wasn't thinking it through. He just pulled out his gun and shot. Twice! He could've done a lot more things before he shot the gun. Also, when Jerome put the gun in his pocket, I was thinking it was a bad idea. He wasn't considering what could happen, and even though he probably should not have been shot by the racist cop, it probably wasn't the best idea to have the gun in the first place. 
A theme that also was shown in the book was forgive and forget. The sooner Jerome's family just tried to move on, the better they would be. This poem goes with the book because I felt like this is how the boy felt in the book. If people knew how to see through everyone skin and just looked at the personality within them all of this would've never happened.

All of them murdered. By the police. The thing is, they are all black. The police just don't have the right, to kill black people. For doing what. Carrying around a Nerf gun. Talking to a white girl. Looking intimidating. I don't think so. That is not okay. People don't deserve to lose their lives because racist policemen don't know how to think, to consider, to correct. This should never happen. Take Emmett Till's death for instance. What did he do. He talked to a white girl. So white men took him, shot him in the head, through him down a hill, tortured him, and through him into a lake to drown out his screaming. All because he talked to a white woman. This is unacceptable. It is murder. It shouldn't happen. With many more of these happening, the only reason this stood out was because of his face. At the open casket funeral. This should be punished by death. There is no reason to hurt a black person, just because they look different. White people look different too. So consider this, would you like this to happen to you?

After being arrested, African-Americans are 33% more likely than whites to be detained while facing a felony trial in New York. It is not fair to some people that there is an imbalance in the statistics when it comes to white to black. The book Ghost Boys has this same problem where their main character (Jerome) is black and is shot by a racist cop. This is a problem in the book because he was just a little boy that had hopes and dreams. After he is shot he becomes a ghost. As a ghost he watches his family (his ma, grams, and sister/Kim) as they try to charge the cop in court for manslaughter. There is one person that can see him and that is the cops daughter (Sarah). The daughter feels sympathy for the ghost as she thinks that the cop is racist too. The cop never gets justice for what he did but nobody forgets about Jerome. Carlos's family and Jerome's family have a picnic to celebrate him on Day Of The Dead and that is how the book wraps up. I hope that one day you can read ghost boys it is an amazing book.
