Hitler's war thirst and patriotism began in WW1 when he fought for Germany. Later, he entered politics. Germans were unsatisfied with the treaty which ended WW1, as it blamed them for war and caused loss of land. Germany then entered an economic depression. This was the perfect time for Hitler's rise. His powerful speeches and leadership of the Nazi party got Hitler elected as chancellor of Germany on January 30, 1933. He then became a dictator shortly after. He advocated for territorial expansion (causing WWll) and the extermination of Jews.

On this day, Jews were stripped of their rights; Hitler affected the lives of Jews in savage ways, making it nearly impossible for them to live. Hitler and the Nazis party were based on a racist idealogy. Within a year of his rule, Jews couldn't work in various fields. In public areas, signs bearing "Jews Not Welcome" were posted on doors. With the Nuremberg laws in place, these discriminations became day-to-day normalities. Jews even found it difficult to buy supplies. Even with these racist beliefs in place, the outside world thought this was simply a phase.

The start of WWll was when Germany occupied Poland, and this launched the war in Europe. It is believed that Hitler wanted Poland so Germans could live there. Poland surrendered as Germany had much stronger forces than before. Although the war began in Europe, very soon, it spread all over the world. This war is the deadliest war history has ever known. It was fought between the Axis countries (including Germany, Italy, and Japan) and Allied countries (including the U.S., Britain, France, and the Soviet Union. In Texas, because of the war, the economy increased by over 400%, people migrated to Texas in search of jobs, and the population grew as more workers were needed in factories.

Benito Mussolini, who was the Italian dictator during WWll, was Hitler's role model for rising to power in Germany. Hitler examined Mussolini's ways of becoming a dictator and stationing a fascist government. But, the two leaders' relationship is still indefinite. After the war began (when Germany invaded Poland), it caused Mussolini to decide that it was time to apply his Pact of Steel (partnership/alliance between Italy and Germany) with Hitler. So on June 10th, 1940, Italy announced war on France and Britain who were part of the Allied countries.

Op. Barbarossa was Hitler's codename for the invasion of the USSR. Although Hitler anticipated a fast win, many reasons postponed this Op. from being carried out. Firstly, the operation had inadequate planning and didn't use many good strategies. Also, the severe winter weather performed against Germany. German forces also suffered weakening. Even though Germany had the advantage of a surprise attack (Stalin refused to accept that the USSR was to be attacked), in the end, Op. Barbarossa failed. Although Hitter blamed the bad weather, it was actually the fact that Germany hadn't utilized the best supplies to fight in icy conditions.

Hitler overthrew most of Europe, but he still wanted to fight Britain; but first, Germany had to destroy Britain's air force by bombing to capture GB. Germany realized that GB is an intimidating opponent, but they still kept bombing the airforce. GB didn't stop fighting back, and soon Hitler changed his plans and bombed cities instead. Germany tried bombing cities in GB for a long time, but the British airforce got the better of them. Soon, Germany realised that they couldn't beat the British air force. In the end, GB won because they had a few advantages.

The French Commission signed the Armistice agreement (a contract created by competing sides in a battle to stop battling for a specific amount of time) charged by Germany at the same place as the 1918 Armistice signing. This required France's surrender in WWll. After the Armistice was in place, France was going to supposedly split into two areas: one under the watch of the German military, and the other under a French leader.

The Japanese Navy launched a surprise attack on the U.S. naval base (Pearl Harbor) in Hawaii; this was a tactic to prevent the U.S. to strike. But it caused the opposite result and drove the U.S. to join the war as the invasion couldn't be disregarded by the public. When America entered the war, about 750,000 Texans served in the war. Hundreds of Japanese fighter planes and bombers soared to the base and struck. They threw bombs and torpedoes at American warships and US fighter planes on land so they couldn't fight back using the planes. The Japanese caused plenty of damage to ships and aircrafts, but the U.S. was able to heal from the attack.

The Battle of the Bulge was a significant battle between American and German forces, with Germany trying to push the Allies out of mainland Europe--it's believed to be one of the greatest battles ever fought. Despite Allied victories in France, Hitler had other plans to continue the war. Dwight D. Eisenhower (or Ike) from Denison, Texas served as the highest commander of the Allied forces. On Dec. 16, Germany launched a huge raid. It lasted for more than a month as America prevented Germany from invading Europe. Due to the winter weather, America wasn't ready for the attack; the Germans had a good plan too--German soldiers were disguised as American soldiers, but were actually spies. In the end, the American's bravery and intense fighting won the battle.

On this day, G.B. and the U.S. commemorated Victory in Europe Day. Previously occupied places in Western Europe were delighted with the collapse of the Nazis, setting out flags and banners. German troops gave in all over Europe, and papers were signed in different areas. Germany relinquished after the last truce on the Channel Island of Sark and in northern Latvia. The USSR and Germans both lost soldiers. Even though the German soldiers tried to flee, 2M captives were obtained by Russia. 13K British prisoners were dismissed. V-E was celebrated one day later in Moscow when the Germans surrendered in Silesia (a region in Poland).
