1. The mother uses a basilica and the daughter a role to.
2. Mother uses fractured sentences, dropping words like to/the/and, and she mostly uses present tense instead of past tense. It doesn't make her less intelligible, but her pronunciation could have affected intelligibility negatively.
3. The attitudes to the mother's English tend to be negative. Because her English isn't socially "acceptable" people claim not to understand her and treat her differently to someone fluent in English (like in the hospital situation).
4

1. The author's can speak standard English in some situations and more casual English in family context. We think she speaks acrolect. In the mother's speech, there are some mis-using. We think the mother speaks basilect.

2. The tense, forms and phrases the mother use are different from the standard English. Lack of subject in a sentence and misuse of singular and plural forms are examples. The style free compares to standard English.
This dose not make her less intelligible, because people can still recognise her and communicate with her.
3. People sometimes do not take her seriously and not give her good service, pretend not to understand her and even act as if they did not hear her.
Linguistically, the mother's speech has her own system and do obey some rules. So her English can be a kind of variation of standard English.
Socially, the mother may be considered as uneducated.

1. The daughter most likely sits on a acrolect region of the cline, whereas the mother sits somewhere in between mesolect and basilect.
2. There are a lot of un-conjugated or incorrectly conjugated verbs (incorrect tense) that impede on the meaning of what she is saying. There are problems with the sentence structure (sentences can be too short) Sometimes these problems can effect the intelligibility of what she is saying, other times you can get a general idea of what she is trying to say. Chinese cultural and historical references make the text hard to understand from a foreign perspective.
3. People's varying attitudes reflect the mother's ability to change her position within the cline - people might understand her better when she is talking about a familiar topic, but might have more trouble understanding her, or her grammatical problems are more obvious in the medical example the daughter provided. The last example provided shows us that the mother was received poorly compared to her daughter - the hospital staff acted discriminately due to her language ability.
