Personal Event: An age-graded event I lived through infancy was my graduation from pre-k which was fun because we prepared a dance for our parents.
World Event: One world event that influenced my development in my first two years of life would have been the 9/11 event where terrorists crashed a total of three planes and two into the twin towers. This was a complete shock to not only the nation but the whole wide world. It was on the news everywhere in every language. My parents remember this event and still shed tears to this day because of all the innocent lives lost. My older brother says I was eating a cookie just watching the news completely clueless, well of course I was less than a year old. My parents mentioned they had plans of taking us to different trips during those months but due to the situation they held off the plans because they were traumatized. They mentioned it was until five years from September 11, 2001 until they wanted to start traveling again. Of course that affected my brother and I because we didn’t get to go on trips and were in constant fear of terrorists.
Theory: The theory I most relate to is the bandura theory and the reason for this is because during my toddler years I would imitate those around me, and observe their actions and do it myself. I have an older brother who would constantly call my grandmother “mommy Ana” and of course I would repeat that same name to call my grandmother.

EARLY CHILDHOOD YEARS 2007

Personal Event: Something non-normative I went through as a child was my father having his visa taken away and would have to go back to Mexico without us. This came as a surprise at a young age which greatly affected me. It was the worst separating a family and all because he is not a U.S citizen it was horrible. Another event that happened as an age graded event during the same time my father left was that I learned to ride the bike which was exciting yet somber because my father was not here.
World Event: One world event that shaped my life was the time that the economy was going down and the gas prices were going up which shaped my life because there was not enough money for toys around Christmas.
Theory: The theory I connect to the most would be from Chapter 7 which is Vygotsky's sociocultural theory. The reason I feel I connect the most to this is because this theory suggests that social interaction leads to continuous changes and then proceeds to changes in children’s thoughts. Also behavior can vary greatly depending on the children’s culture. I feel that I myself as a child grew up watching my mother and aunts with their cultural beliefs and it got me thinking and mimicking them. Such as everytime we got sick my mother would rub Vicks on me and would pray the rosary so that I could get better.

Personal Event: A non-normative event that happened to me was that at the age of 9 I sprained my ankle playing soccer during P.E. This is something I remember so vividly because of the pain I experienced being so young. You can already believe I was crying myself to sleep for days. An age graded event I lived during this time was my sixth grade graduation from John H. Shary. It was a sentimental time knowing I was growing up no longer a small child no more.
World Event: A world event that influenced my developmental time was the 2010 earthquake that happened in Haiti. I remember my parents talking about it and helping send donations. They even spoke about adopting a kid who needed a home because his parents died. This shaped me because it helped me feel so much gratitude for the parents and home I had.
Theory: I connected the most to Kohlberg’s theory of moral development because, at the age of nine I started reasoning for what is good and bad. By this time I knew stealing was bad and lying as well. I could separate things morally such as what would not only get me in trouble but what would be bad for my conscience too.

Personal Event: An age graded event I lived at the age of 13 was that I started middle school in Sharyland North Jr High. It was an exciting time as I was emerging into a new chapter of my life and was no longer a child. A non-normative event I lived during the age of 15 as well was the near death experience I had in Merida Yucatan Mexico. I was swimming in a lake and I started getting my allergies which is an anaphylactic shock where I saw pitch black and fainted. I felt so vulnerable especially because we were miles away from any hospital. It’s crazy to think back, my last thoughts before I fainted were “I hope my parents know how much I love them.”
World Event: A world event that influenced my development during the years of 13-18 was the Trump impeachment. This was an unforgettable time because there have only been a few impeachment in U.S history so this was something I will never forget. It definitely made me pay attention to politics and wake up from my younger self to realize what is actually happening in this country.
Theory: The theory I connected to the most was the information processing theory. This theory supports improvements in information processing capacities such as memory, attention, knowledge etc. As we grow older we are able to process more information in the long term. The reason I connect to this theory is because from the ages of 13-18 I had a massive change with processing information. As I became an adolescent around the age of 14 I was able to think faster and retain much more memories than I ever did before.

Personal Event: . An age graded event was when I graduated high school. It brings me so many nostalgic memories thinking about the great times I had in high school and how they will never come back again. It almost hurts to type this out. One non-normative event during this time of my life was being betrayed by my best friend since the first grade. She told another friend something I had told her that was private, I will never forget the feeling I felt once I found out it was such a shock to me.
World event: A world event during this era was the horrendous pandemic we are actually still living except often people like to forget. This pandemic has impacted me in many ways. For instance I think about every single germ now even more than before because I was always a germaphobe. I think twice before going bowling because of the balls we must touch.

Theory: The theory I identified with the most is Identity vs role confusion, and the reason for this is because we are in a chapter of our lives where we are searching who we are. It’s a time where we want to know not who we are but instead who we really are, and I cannot emphasize that enough. It’s a time to know what we stand for, what our religious views are, what our goals are etc. It’s very easy to be influenced by friends and our parents but it’s incredibly important to know deep down what we like. I remember this time in my life where I would find my parents so annoying for dragging me to church groups all the time. I realized after a time of self reflection that I really do believe in God and stand for the beliefs. I want to do something because I really have faith in it, not because my parents force me.
