"Shirley MacLaine and Michael J. Fox tell us to accept life's situations and to accept uncertainty as a natural part of life. And the greater we are able to do that, the greater we can lean into happiness. Mastin Kipp tells us it's ok to not strive to be happy, but accept whatever we're feeling."
Does this mean that happiness is more due to reactions to situations, and outlooks on life than events that actually occur? Positive outlook on events (silver lining) = happier in negative situations? People who force themselves to be happy are often not happy. Forcing an appearance of happiness often makes people less happy.

The article claims that many of the causes of unhappiness include regret, the lack of fulfillment, self-conscienceness, and failure. Contrary to the other article, that claimed it was more about outlook on life. According to the article about happiness, negative emotions are a part of life, and only result in happiness when treated correctly.

Instant Gratfication

Society as whole has definitely shifted towards an attitude of instant gratification, as well as self above others in the last hundred years. I agree with this article's claims that this has led to long term unhappiness due to impulsiveness. People are becoming more likely to choose instant happiness than long-term happiness, because of several factors. These include a lack of coping skills with reality, as well as a lack of self-control.

The Instant Gratification article applies to The Great Gatsby as well, because a majority of characters, including Daisy, are unhappy. Especially regarding her marriage, Daisy wanted immediate happiness, and was left unhappy for a majority of her life. Jay Gatsby, however, knew a goal he had to accomplish, and patiently waited to achieve it. He seemed to be the happiest character in the novel.

This image displays the fact that their is no quantitative way to explain happiness. There is no certain level that one can reach in order to achieve 'happiness'. It is a relative term, and small amounts of happiness can be found in times of sadness. This photo reminds people to not reach for some invisible line representing happiness, but instead move for betterment overall. Happiness
