Celebrated in Mexico and some parts of the United States between December 16 and 24.

Las Posadas commemorates the journey that Joseph and Mary made from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of a safe refuge where Mary could give birth to the baby Jesus.

Families visit a different home each of the nine nights. The people inside the homes play the part of the innkeepers.

The people visiting play the part of perigrinos or pilgrims. They are looking for a place to stay. The families share a feast of special Mexican foods prepared for the celebration.

Some children are chosen to dress up as Joseph and Mary. They also break piñatas and get candy and gifts. People go to church, say prayers, and sing Christmas songs in Spanish

All three holidays are celebrated in December.

Celebrated December 23rd

The city dedicates land to growing radishes used for the event.

The radishes can be up to two feet long and weigh up to 10 pounds.

Other creations made from corn husks and dried flowers are also included in the displays and competitions.

The Spanish brought radishes to Mexico in the 16th century. They grow in thick, long, contorted shapes and are not meant to be eaten.

Celebrated December 25th

Christmas signifies the birth of Jesus.

On Christmas, people decorate by putting evergreen conifers in their homes and putting ornaments that may show something about your family.

Some families knock on people's doors and sing Christmas songs for the owner of the home.

On Christmas day, children open presents from family members that the child has wanted.
