1. I am thinking of establishing goals for both short-term (3-5 months - which I am planning on right now) and long-term (3-5 years - which I am also brainstorming on). Some of those plans are coming up in the next few bullet points, but in a nutshell, those goals are collaborating with community and school complex members, as well as starting a club at the school level.

2. Another challenge I wish to implement is to familiarize and incorporate the ISTE standards in my lessons. I am a member of our Hawaii ISTE unit, but I am intending on joining the national ISTE as well.

3. Finally, I am so thrilled that a public librarian friend (whom I had gone to library school with!) is one of our neighboring public libraries! 1. First I plan to send out monthly library newsletters to the staff and students to promote the theme of the month, activites,  makerspaces, as well as special features on the top grade level readers for the reading program.  Here is the beginning of my "Back to School" newsletter.  Comments and suggestions are appreciated!

2. Next, I am going to try to hold 2 different lunch group book clubs where I plan to promote the SC Junior Book Award Nominees.

3. We are heading into a redesignation year for National School's to Watch, and a huge component of that program relates to the social emotional needs of students.  I would like to reach out the a local therapy dog group to see if they will visit my library.

4. Finally, this year my district is switch to the LMS Canvas, and as my school's technology integration specialist, I want to hold a series of "Coffee and Canvas" training sessions for teachers.  If these sessions are successful, I may open them up to parents as well.

I think I could "step up my game" by creating more promo videos and narrowing down what I share to what is most timely and relevant at that time of the year.  I love making graphics and flyers on Canva to advertise our programs.  I am currently working on a one-page handout/infographic/poster on Canva that gives an overview of all the library programs and resources for all community members
Another challenge I've had is integrating our STEM and makerspace initiatives with classroom learning. I was hoping teachers would jump on the band wagon and use makerspace as a STEM extension to what they're teaching and learning about in class. There have been pockets of success, but it hasn't caught on as I had envisioned. I plan to use the district curriculum overview to plan out monthly themes that align with the broad science and math concepts. What spoke to me most in this chapter is the data collection. We all know how great the library is, but we need that data to convince especially administrators how vital we are to student success. The plan described in this chapter gives me a vision for how to do it. I am going to take this to our Back to School Librarian in service for all to use. In the past couple of years our jobs have shifted to more of an IT specialist when Actual IT specialists were let go in a money saving effort. A few challenges really stuck out to me this week:

1. I plan to jot down my ideas for branding my library. I have some small goals in mind already,  and of course, some big dreams. Since last year was my first year in the district and I never got to teach in the library, I expect that a lot of new ideas will come up next year. I like the idea of writing down/mapping out my plan, though, because it holds me more accountable.

2. The idea of blogging or a newsletter definitely appeals to me. For now, I am going to dip my feet in the water and test it out through social media and Classroom Dojo. I am planning on using Classroom Dojo to share learning with families next year, monitor behaviors, and remind families when their children have a library class coming up. I started a Twitter and Instagram account part way through the school year, and I really plan on promoting the community and families getting more involved with those accounts next year. I'd love to try to set up some sort of weekly scheduled post where the students share what they are learning to promote the students' voices.

3. I set up an account for the school through the public library last year to help teachers get books that we may not have available in our space when they need them. A couple of takeaways from this chapter.
Data collection-I love this idea not just like the chapter said, not to "prove" anything to anyone. I think for me it would hold me more accountable as far as effectiveness. I love the idea of knowing what, where, and how I spend my time and streamlining some things to make things more efficient.
Programming-I did not get to many PLCs last year for a variety of reasons, I am going to advocate for myself to make that happen this school year.
Resources-Often I go to the resources when I want to search or post a question. I plan on taking a day each week and perusing a resource during a set time so I am purposefully going and checking it out. 
Newletter-We have a communications department at our school, so I have an easy in to share more success stories of students, information for staff, community.

Below is what I have so far! Last year, the previous librarian focused mostly on crafting, STEM challenges and a book of the month. I wanted to expand on those activities because they are usually so successful. I added an origami challenge as well as a coding learning opportunity which will change monthly. That rotation seems to work well for our students. I also wanted to include a Learn activity especially for special months, such as Hispanic Heritage Month in September. The challenge I chose to try to focus on this upcoming year is becoming more familiar with the ISTE Standards and utilizing this language when having collaborative conversations with teachers. I don't think I've examined the ISTE Standards more than briefly in a course in Library School, but looking at them as we are reading this book I can see that they are such a strong guide to use as we are designing intentional instruction for students. I hope to be able to showcase the various ways we are meeting these standards as well as use them in planning new lessons. I absolutely love that these standards focus on what we want our students to BE, not simply isolated skills that may have little value in their future.

I’ve really been focus on promoting my library for the past couple of years.  I want to continue this through monthly newsletters, social media, clubs, author visits, book fairs and any thing else I can think of.  It really matters that our community sees and knows all of the good “stuff” going on.  I always partner with our Title One Literacy nights and ELL FAMILY events.  I plan to add info on digital literacy in my newsletters and posts. I love the idea of tying character development and digital tech. I have been promoting books and activities on social media and our library website, but I need to improve on that, especially the website. I need to spend more time designing an appealing and easy to use website that will highlight what a great place the library is. 

Something new I want to work on is a newsletter. We became a 1:1 school last year, so I want the newsletter to include technology tips for using and troubleshooting Chromebooks. I also want to highlight new technology tools that teachers could use in their classroom. In addition to a digital newsletter, I would like a one-page printed newsletter to display around campus such as on the bathroom stall doors or even bathroom mirrors and on bulletin boards in the hallways. 

Something I started on last year is a gallery wall in the library to display student work. I’ve already purchased several double pane acrylic frames that student work can be easily placed into. I need to purchase a few more and then have them hung, hopefully early in the school year.

Since the library was closed last year and right now, the furniture is stacked up on one side for waxing the floor, 2 shelves will be removed & donated to another school and the computer lab equipment is still stored in the library, I have a chance  for a partial redesign.

Goal 1 - When I host my annual "Book Break" (Barnes & Nobles experience w/refreshments, 1st to reserve new titles, guessing games, door prizes & "talk story" opportunities for teachers & staff) before school starts, I plan to have a whiteboard stand with "I wish my library had..."  I'll also have an online sketch of the library floor plan to move furniture, resources & zones for input.
Goal 2 - Have a soft library re-opening for students with the same "Book Break" items as the teachers & staff, but with packaged snacks.
Goal 3 - Create a Library Branding plan using ideas from the "Book Break".

I loved this chapter! I was very inspired and motivated by the ideas. 

1. I started a library website last year, but it's skeletal. I will continue to develop it - as a hub for all things library. I see it including links to resources, how-to videos, and student-created content. 
2. I really liked the idea of sharing info home about what we're doing in the library - especially when it comes to digital citizenship stuff because parents need to know that stuff too! I need to look into which platforms would work best. Last year we used Seesaw and Schoology, but we're migrating to Skyward this summer. I don't yet know anything about Skyward's communication tools.  And perhaps I'll find that another method is better.
3. A cohesive marketing look - I have one started, but could extend it to signage, parent communication, etc.
4. I appreciated the message about partnering with the public library. I used to be the director there, so I have purposefully stepped back from the relationship there to let the new director shine. However, one message I got from this chapter was - we should lift-up each other's work. I can certainly share and promote their events and programs to the benefit of all.

I currently use IG as my main source of reaching out to students through social media. I've run some contests to gain more followers and I try to interact with out other student organization accounts. For my staff, I usually send out a quarterly newsletter with stats and info. I refrained from doing that last year just because there was so much going on with Covid and things not running quite the same. When I need to make formal announcements to students, I use my Schoology course that all students are automatically enrolled in and that really helps!

I want students, staff, parents, and administrators to say about my library that it was a welcoming place for everyone. You could walk into my library and feel at home. No one was going to ask why you were there, but how can I help you? The Librarian before me had very strict policies and I've had to work hard to change them around!

My goal is to continue to work on my social media presence and make sure my library is a place kids want
