         <title>What is this technology and how does it work?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Researchers at the Linkoping University in Sweden developed a wound dressing that can give visual indication if there is an infection starting beneath the wound it is covering (Hastings, 2023). "Wound infections are common and can substantially delay healing and can result in non-healing wounds and sepsis" (Eskilson et al., 2023, pg. 1). The dressing developed uses the pH changes in infected wounds to give a real time visual indication to the patient and caregivers that an infection is developing. This pH change helps give early detection even before visual signs of infection develop such as redness and pus (Hastings, 2023). This technology allows for instant infection detection and will give way to a more efficient treatment and better quality of life (Hastings, 2023). Per the research done (Eskilson et al.) infected wounds pH is more basic than the pH in a healing wound. This pH difference allows an indicator on the front of the dressing to change color and allow provider and patients a way to monitor wound healing.&nbsp;"Naked-eye sensor readout can facilitate cost-efective and streamlined wound care, potentially reducing needs for excessive treatment with antibiotics" (Eskilson et al, 2023, pg. 10). </div>]]></description>

         <title>What do I think about this technology? </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In my opinion this new technology will do more good than harm. The cost savings that come with decreased infections can be huge. As with anything it will take time for it to become more cost effective and for it to be available. In my own professional experience I've seen patients that have had to be admitted into the hospital and will require long term antibiotics that go way past their stay. Chronic wounds are a huge problem both physically and financially. This wound dressing would allow us to stop wounds from getting to that point. The cons of this technology is that it needs to be put into studies to determine what the limitations are. Once these limitations are discovered specific wound criteria can be determined. Infection reduction helps stop the rise in antibiotic resistance and overall goes with moving forward with new technology. This is a prime example of evidence based practice and putting it to use to improve patient lives. </div>]]></description>
