He was described as a natural born leader, was very intelligent in terms of military strategies and was in excellent shape and healthy. The first encounter between Lincoln and McClellan occurred in 1859 in Illinois.  McClellan recently resigned from the Army and was the superintendent of the Illinois Central Railroad which Lincoln served as an attorney for. Additionally. McClellan would constantly disregard Lincoln’s orders and act in however he sought possible. In October 1861, a few senators visited White House complaining to Lincoln about the duties of McClellan, which Lincoln stood up for McClellan. Lincoln visited McClellan later that day and McClellan aided that he needed more recruits and equipment to win the war and Lincoln agreed with McClellan to please him. Lincoln would support McClellan against anything said by outside sources with compassion and respect towards McClellan, even though McClellan barely listened to Lincoln. Additionally, McClellan would show Lincoln with the upmost disrespect. Even when multiple members of Congress was not fond of McClellan, Lincoln would always put in a good word advocating him.
