You know that paper that comes with a new shirt? That's the material for the white flower. The red is the same material and was once gift wrapping paper that I kept (I liked it too much to chuck it away). Having a small o e in a big o e seems to give the lotus flower more petals. I'd actually need a third medium sized one. Let's see what office works has to offer :D

I can say that this was the most difficult out of the three that we have made. Making the origami flower was tricky as you need to align the papers perfectly, otherwise they will rip. The first one was a disaster and had to bin it and start again. Also making the circuit was quite fiddly too. My lack of knowledge led me to view many YouTube videos. Nonetheless, I enjoyed making it. Here is the result. Happy New Year!!

This project was quite fiddly. I made my first flower and thought it was a disaster. The paper was too thick. So I put it aside and started again using thinner paper. This one was a little better and good enough for me! I followed the instructions from the recommended YouTube video, however, I worked out a way to make the petals that suited me better. Using my method, I was able to fix up my first attempt. With more practice I could improve a lot more. I also think using an even thinner piece of paper would make it easier.

I found the origami the most difficult part as it required very fiddly fine motor skills. I really enjoyed making the circuit and it was a lot more cost friendly than I had originally anticipated. I do think that this activity would be more suited to stage 3 as it did require a lot of patience as it was very fiddly. Not sure if we were meant to attach the flower and switch to the cup like I did but I thought it would be fun to do! check out my video :)

Finally got to make my lotus flower with light after my holiday break. I found this build challenging and more interesting because of it! The first light I purchased required far too many volts (24) of power for my small battery, even my second attempt (only a 1.5v light) proved a bit troublesome! And I also finally made my first propper video for this unit, also a fun activity.

The making of the lotus flower I completed in the two stages. Firstly the circuit with the light bulb which I found simple as I had worked with basic circuits before but then there was the origami lotus flower. This was another story. I sat with my piece of paper following the tutorial for the origami lotus flower step by step only to find my flower too big so we started again with a smaller piece of paper and eventually got there. I found the origami was the hardest part in this task but persistence paid off in the end.

The circuit i then modified with a larger battery and three small led globes to create a bunch of flowers.

Thought I had already posted this but checking this pallet out I hadn't. I used what I had at home being white paper to make my Lotus flower which I definitely think made it a lot harder to folder and create the flower shape compared to using thinner paper would be like. I struggled with creating the circuit and eventually after many attempts and watching videos I was able to get it to work (didn't catch this on video unfortunately). I think this would be a great activity for the upper primary years as it involves some problem solving and research however, it could be adapted to the younger years with each children making their lotus flower and then possibly in groups making the circuit or making it as a class.
