-date read: August 29, 2020

-Review: This book is based on the song One Love by Bob Marley, which gives children the opportunity to read to the beat of the original song. The book is about a girl who engages her community to convert her neighborhood for the better. I like this book because it emphasizes the importance of relationships, and how important it is to love and accept each other.

-age/audience: pre-k, 1-2 grades
This book will be interesting to students who love lyrical books.

-Seravallo: i could use this

book to with

Activity 1.3 in

Seravallo (2015)

because the book has lots of illustrations that go with the words. The book can be read slowly by first reading the sentences and then pointing to the illustrations of the characters, and objects that brings out the context of the message in the page.

-Date read: August 24, 2020

-Review: This book has illustrations that is filled with diverse characters. The book is about the new-comings that are followed by letting go of things. The book teaches to embrace new milestones such as changes in life, and progressions. I like this book because it is filled with examples of positive changes that happen when attempting to start something new. the ending is especially important because of the message of children leaving their parents to start school, where they can say hello to new friends and grow.

-age/audience: 4-7 years old
This book would be interesting to kids who Are starting their first day of school, or for students who are going through a new milestone/life experience.

Seravallo:
i could use this

book to with

Activity 1.16 in

Serravallo (2015)

because on this page

it says to read on the page what the student sees, then the student can say what is on their mind. The books fit well with this strategy because They can read the 'goodbye' parts and share their thoughts before they go on to read the 'hello' part of the story.

-Date read: August 29, 2020

-Review: The book is about a girl who wants to hold off bed time because her imagination comes to play when she has loads of tasks to get done to prepare for the arrival of the dragonfly queen. The tasks she must get done include watering her garden, gather snails, and many more tasks before she can get to sleep. Her grandfather, another character in the story supports Miyuki's imagination by helping her get the tasks done. I like this book because it is filled with beautiful illustrations, and the characters have their own personalities.

-age/audience: 5-8 years old
This book will be interesting to kids who are very imaginative, and who love complex and vibrant illustrations.

Seravallo:
i could use this

book to with

Activity 1.8 in

Seravallo (2015)

because on this page

it mentions that a book should have more than one character for this strategy to work. The personalitles can be acted out in different voice tones, and emotions. For example, Miyuki is very imaginative, enthusiastic, and adventurous; while her grandpa is very patient, and calm.

Date read: August 27, 2020

-Review: Imagine is a book about a boy who moves from his village with his family to new locations. The boy had to go to a new school and teach himself english, and later on become a poet Laureate of the U.S.A. I liked this book because of the message it carries, which is to imagine what could become of a person.

-age/audience: 4-8 Years old
This book will be interesting to students who are wonderers. Students who always question what they will become or are enthusiastic about who they want to be when they grow up.

-seravallo
i could use this

book to with

Activity 5.18 in

Serravallo (2015)

because on this page students have to determine if the story would be any different if the setting was somewhere other than what they read. This strategy ties in well with the strategy because the character starts off in a village, then changes to a town where he had to teach himself english and accomplish different things. If he were to move to another village, the character's life would most likely not have had the same outcome.

-Date read: August 30, 2020

-Review: This book is about Children from all parts of the world sharing what they see when they look outside their window. Each character's reality is different since they all live in different locations, and environments. I like this book because it brings different cultures together at the end by tying the differences of the character's surroundings to the moon. No matter how different we all are and the different views outside out window, the moon brings us close because we are all under the same moon.

-age/audience: 4-8 years old
This book would be interesting to kids who are very curious about the world, and those who are adventurous.
-Seravallo
i could use this

book to with

Activity 5.15 in

Seravallo (2015)

because on this page

it says that the students should figure out one setting, and figure out the settings after. The story emphasizes "all are welcome," meaning that all students are included in activities and learning. The word "we" is used throughout to keep the characters included. The book also mentions that the students can learn from each other, and to practice kindness towards each other.

-age/audience: 4-8 years old
This book would be interesting to kids who are nervous about starting the first day of school.

Seravallo: i could use this

book to with

Activity 1.12 in

Seravallo (2015)

because on this page

it says to keep in mind what repeats. in this case the phrase "all are welcome" repeats throughout the book. Students can point out when the phrase gets repeated then look at the differences in the illustrations.

The umbrella is big enough to fit everyone by spreading its arms to everyone. No matter how tall or hairy a person is, the umbrella will give shelter to everyone. I like this book because it teaches about inclusivity, and that there is always room for everyone no matter how many people there is.

-age/audience: 4-7 year olds
This book can interest kids who love or dislike rain.
-Seravallo:
i could use this

book to with

Activity 7.6 in

Seravallo (2015)

because on this page

it mentions that students should re-read the last page of the story and to think about what they are left with. Then to say it like a lesson. In this case, the message the book brings is about inclusivity.

-Date read: September 7, 2020

-Review: This book is about an Indian girl who had to travel to India to attend her grandmas funeral. She had a yellow suitcase that she would fill with toys that her grandma would gift her to take back to her home. Asha the main character had to mourn her grandma and acted out in anger, and sadness. Until Asha found a quilt that her grandma made, Asha realized that memories of her grandma are forever. I liked this book because some students can reflect and relate to the story or look into the character's story and empathize.

-age/audience: 6-10 years old
This book is interesting for kids who have gone through a loss of someone they love. It can also be interesting to students from India, or students who love to look at illustrations from other parts of the world.

-Seravallo:
i could use this

book to with

Activity 6.1 in

Seravallo (2015)

because on this page

it talks about getting to know the characters well by putting oneself in the character's shoes to understand how they feel in the story. The students can either relate to the story or imagine how they would feel in the character's position.

-Date read: September 10, 2020

-Review: This book starts off by comparing flowers to children. For example, some flowers need more sun than others, and some kids are more chatty and others. This book then continues to go into detail about kids who are different. Some have diabetes, asthma, wheelchairs, and other types of disabilities. I like this book because i have never read a book that shines a light on different disabilities in a positive and accepting way. I love the illustrations and the knowledge that the book offers. The Message that the book gives is that it is okay to be different, and it is important to ask questions to learn more.

Age/audience: 4-8 years old
This book will be interesting for kids who like to ask questions about people different than them. I do think that this book should be read to all students to gain knowledge about different disabilities.

-Seravallo:
i could use this

book with

Activity 4.3 in

Serravallo (2015)

because

on this page

it talks about sounding like a teacher instead of a story teller when reading a book that contains information. This book is non-fiction which fits perfectly under this strategy.
