2d: Managing Student Behavior

I use a visual behavior chart in my student teaching. We call it 'Pride Points.' Every time the students show being proactive, having integrity, being resilient, showing empathy, and being diligent they can earn a point. They earn these points and when shopping day comes, they can spend their points on prizes. These prizes include fun pencils, erasers, magnets/stickers, slime, experience days, etc. The students like to earn points and it is so important that we acknowledge their good behavior.

3b: Using questioning and discussion Techniques

I use a lot of essential questions when teaching my lessons. In our wonders book, they have great essential questions at the beginning of each lesson. These questions help the students become more engaged in what they are learning. These questions relate to the reading that students will be doing later in the lessons.

3c: Engaging students in Learning

For my student teaching, we have exit tickets every day at the end of the day. Math is our last subject of the day, so we have the students come and sit down at the carpet. We then talk about what we learned in math and every students has a chance to say something. We also do exit tickets throughout the day. We will talk about our day and what we have done so far. This helps the students keep routine and recite what we have learned. If there is something that students are confused on, we will go over/talk about that topic again.

4a: Reflecting on Teaching

This is a lesson plan that I wrote for student teaching. At the end of my lesson plan, I wrote up a reflection. This reflection includes student learning and how I feel they grasped onto the information. The other reflective part is on my teaching and how I feel I got the information across.

4c: Communicating with Families

During student teaching, I have been witnessing how my cooperating teacher has communicated with her students' parents. I have now seen how parents can be very consistent and not always easy to communicate with. There has been some emails/phone calls back and forth that have stood out to me. One of our parents has been accusing my teacher of not paying attention. Seeing how she dealt with this situation, has helped me if I come across this. My cooperating teacher will call parents when she feels they need to talk and helps me figure out how to handle certain situations.

4d: Participating in a Professional Community

In this document, I posted a picture of the Easton Area district calendar. This calendar shows some dates that were for teacher in-service. I attended these inservice's where we talked about a lot of important things. We talked a lot about our new curriculum and how things are different. Anita archer was one of the main topics that we talked about when it came to reading. We listened/watched her approach and learned how to implement it. We learned about how to help children with Autism and the many ways to do so. We also talked about how having our students engage with other students is super beneficial. We also talked about other approaches and to remind us that teaching is also learning.

3a: Communicating with students

Throughout the day of student teaching, I will project whatever we are doing on the smart board. The students are able to see what is being presented and this helps them in many ways. If the students are trying to find a page in their books, they can look at my board and use clues. We use the Wonders program for curriculum which also allows for videos/picture to help with learning. I will present these on the board. We also use IXL with our students. Through IXL we do group jams where we all practice the same topic and work together. The students have ipads where they can access these things.
