Tell us a little bit about yourself. Share with us your seminar expectations and research interests. Have you used multilevel models before? If you have, what are tho research questions that you study? What are the statistical programs and/or programming language(s) that you mostly use?

My goal for the course is to expand my modeling skills in general - I don't have a particular application in mind for my work for multilevel models specifically, but want to improve my modeling. I mostly work in Python, sometimes SPSS. In my research, I build "big data" models of cognition where I extract aspects of people's psychology from their everyday behavior (usually language) on social media and try to learn something interesting about their cognition. For example we've used people's tweets to predict their decisions.

I have taken brief seminars in HLM, but I have not conducted my own analysis (apart from a pseudo-two-period longitudinal analysis).
I have programmed in SPSS, Stata (I know it best), and R.
I am taking this class to help provide structure (and know-how) for my dissertation research.
Dissertation (graduation May 2019, I hope!): on indiv- & community-level factors that affect adolescent smoking in the U.S., with focus on Hispanics vs Whites and native- vs. foreign-born kids.

I am very excited for this seminar! My expectations are that I will become more fluent in RStudio, and hopefully I will also complete the analyses for my master's thesis. I have not used multilevel modeling before, except in a regression course this past spring, where we had an assignment that used hierarchical linear modeling. My research questions revolve around the influence of prenatal experiences in child development (hence why longitudinal modeling is so critical for me). My first statistical training used STATA, but I have used SPSS in the 4 years since that class. I began a project one week ago that requires R.

I'm a second year clinical psychology student, with a particular focus in biological mechanisms underlying developmental psychopathology. I would like to gain experience with multilevel modeling because I'm interested in looking at developmental trajectories, rather than outcomes at individual time points. I've never used multilevel modeling before, so I'm excited to start learning! Prior to this course, I've primarily used R and SPSS for statistical analyses.

I'm a second year sociology student, and my research interests are in the areas of culture and social psychology focusing on identity formation. For this seminar, I'm hoping to continue to develop my quantitative analytical skills and become proficient in multilevel modelling. I have never used multilevel models before! I mostly use Stata but have also used SPSS.

This is Gabby. I'm a 4th year doctoral student in Organization & Management studying micro organizational behavior. Although I've never used MLM before, I've seen this method used rather frequently in the top journals in my field. One particular research question I hope to use this method for is how employees differ in their experience of and ability to cope with workplace demands and stressors. I use SPSS for my research.

This is Fai. My area is quantitative methodology. I hope this seminar will be useful, fun, and stimulating for everyone. I have used multilevel models for a no. of decades. I study school effectiveness, women's empowerment, intimate partner violence, differential item functioning. I use HLM7, Stata, Mplus, SPSS and R.

I am a second year marketing student at Georgia Tech. In marketing area, my track is consumer behavior. I am interested in self-identity, conspicuous consumption and word of mouth. I was exposed to multilevel modeling in my regression class last semester but I wanted to fully grasp the concept and hopefully get to use the method to my own research. I use SPSS and R.
