Only the rich families at that time were able to afford a good education for its kids´, for example teaching them to talk in different languages or how to play diferent instruments. A popular learning practice for poor people was to get educated by the church, this gave the church a huge power because they could choose what to teach, obviously they teached about religion and that stuff.
