Plato was said to be an idealist back then; in other words, he was said to have more abstract thoughts. Unlike a realist who perceived things as being only as they are when we see them in front of us or experience things; Plato was more of a thinker and idea based. He thought there was more to things than just what is seen in front of us.

I chose the modern day example to be Victoria's Secret Models. I found a connection between the two because since Plato was an idealist, he was looking for the deeper picture in things. In other words, a perfect idea of something. Victoria's Secret Model's are known to be that perfect beauty requirement for all girls now-a-days. The models may be tall, tan, beautiful hair, faces, bodies and that's what some girls compare themselves to as what is perfect. Although we see them as just "pretty girls" or "normal people" as a realist would say. There is way deeper meaning into it, and thought as well. The girls go through a lot to accomplish this "look" and they have a set idea in their mind as to what they want to become. Many people just look at the girls and think "Oh she's just a model" but they don't realize that the girls have to do more than just make the outside look pretty, it's also and inner thing.

Do you think the American Dream can happen in other geographic locations besides the United States? Give an example and support your answer with an explanation.

I chose Canada as my example because "The American Dream" can mean having good income and mobility, being stable, being able to raise children, etc. Canada is ranked one of the highest for that because of the fact they have good quality schooling and healthcare for children starting from when they're in preschool and onward. That allows the families to raise their children in a quality home and setting. Then as the children grow up, they won't be coming from poor income families and can have their own successful future and live "The American Dream" if they wanted to.

On the Census paper we received in class I found question #7 "Is person 1 Spanish/Hispanic/Latino?" a bit problematic because why are they separated from the rest of the races? I don't think they have a need to be secluded from the other races or ethnicities following in question #8. In some way it could make them feel like "aliens" or not even considered normal humans to be put in their own group. This brings me to question #8 "What is person 1's race?" I'm just curious as to why it matters what their race is and why they have to put labels on us. I think question #8 should be revised to: " What category best fits you? " That way they are free to choose what they want without feeling like they are subject to one race or origin. Some people are mixed with many cultures and backgrounds and can't be described as just one specific kind. Who is the Census to say who we are or want to be?

I chose the Roman sculpture, The Trajan's Victory Wall. The social function of the wall was to "advertise political power and military achievements through monumental public works" (Fiero 83). We have a similar modern structure known as The Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Wall. The wall shows the names of many people who died in the Vietnam War in other words showing military achievement as well.

The differences between the Medieval Cathedral and Hindu temple are based on how they view the body and representation of humans. For example, the Medieval Cathedral has stained glass pictures and painting of for example, The Virgin Mary and she's clothed and covered up. On the other hand the Hindu Temple's have naked body sculptures erotically posed on the outside of the temples. To the Hindu people though, that is a way to express regeneration, prosperity, abundance and respect for the union of humans and divine love. To the Catholics that is shown to be an act of sinfulness and an act of sexual desire which is not praised. They are similar in the sense than they both are made for practically the same use. To worship, show love, and engage in religious beliefs and studies of they own God or power above them.

I think this graffiti picture can have both sacred and vulgar meaning because although we do have freedom of speech which is in our amendments; we truly don't have the ability to say ANYTHING we want. In the bottom of the picture it says "Conditions Apply" which I though meant something. Majority of the time we do have the right to say what we want, but when it leads to a negative path or something vulgar it no longer is in the freedom of our speech if we aren't allowed to say it.
