Identification & Description of Personal Self-Care Strategies

I am a person in long-term recovery and have put daily practices in place, such as morning pages, meditation, and sometimes yoga. I am committing to more yoga and walking. Morning pages are a way to get thoughts down on paper. I tend to have a mind that does not stop, especially when I have a lot of stress. Hiking and walking in nature gives my mind a break while I practice paying attention to where my feet are hitting the ground, being aware of body sensations, and looking at the beauty around me. I also do breath work and will find myself focusing on breath to fall asleep at times. The grounding technique I use most is inhaling through my feet and exhaling through my crown, then the opposite, ending with visualizing a pillar of light going to the Earth's core.

Professional “Take Away” from Reviewing Resources

What I found in reading the resources was that as helper, I am not alone. Many that work in the helping field tend to take on too much. I will need to practice self-awareness and self-refection consistently to be most effective with clients.

Reflection on Importance of Self-Care in the Helping Profession

I am aware that self-care is very important in the helping profession or out of it. I tend to find myself taking on too much. Currently, I am in two classes and work a full-time job as a supervisor. I have a full caseload and 3 interns that I supervise. If something comes up that is unexpected, I can get overwhelmed and find myself without enough time.
