The Galapagos penguins live in the north of the world, most of them are found on the rocky coast of the Fernandina and Isabela islands, the westernmost of the Galapagos.
Their diet is carnivorous and their natural environment provides them with various types of food, but they prefer small and pelagic fish that are easy to catch and eat, as well as various marine invertebrates, such as anchovies, sardines and mullet. 
Their conservation status is in danger of extinction because they suffer serious threats from other animals, natural or human-generated threats. Wild hawks, owls, dogs and cats are their main threats on land and in the sea they face large marine animals, including the fearsome sharks. The natural phenomena "of the boy and the girl" are threats that alter their life cycle modifying their reproductive seasons and food availability. As human-generated threats are pollution, industrial fishing and oil spills.
These species are not hunted by people, rather by other larger predatory animals, this is because the predators' diet is totally carnivorous, so sardines or small fish do not supply them and that is why they threaten this type of kind of penguins.
There are less than 1,600 Galapagos penguins in the world, believed to be the result of natural disturbances that occurred in the 1980s. Due to the El Niño phenomenon, the currents changed which seriously affected their food supply.
