1807: The treaty of Fontainebleau

Manuel Godoy signed the treaty of Fontainebleau with Napoleon. It allowed Napoleon and the French troops to enter Spain to go to Portugal to invade it but the French troops took advantage and started to invade Spain.

When people realized they were being invaded by the French troops Manuel Godoy and Carlos tried to escape of Madrid but people realized they were trying to escape so the citizens started the riot of Aranjuez so they didn’t had another choice to give in to Napoleon, he took them to Bayona and there the king abdicated.

1812: The first Spanish Constitution

The 19 th of March was the first Spanish constitution. It was approached in Cádiz by small groups of people all around Spain and it was known as LA PEPA.

1808-1814: War of independence

During this years war of independence took place in Spain, the 2nd of may of 1808 the people of Madrid rebelled against the french. During this year Joseph Bonaparte was the king of Spain he was more known as Pepe Bootella, and the Spanish people defeated themselves by the guerrillas.

1814-1820: Absolutist sexenium

During this years Ferdinand VII was the king of Spain and when he started to govern people will show him the constitution and the persian manifest and he will choose the persian manifest so this 6 year will be the absolutism sexennium, six years in which will be a absolute monarchy.

1820-1823:Liberal triennium

Before the year 1820 there would be lots of COUP D’ETATS claiming the constitution, so finally in 1820 the constitution would be approved and there would start the liberal triennium, three years of a liberal government.

1823-1833: Ominous decade

During the years 1823-1839 Ferdinan had an absolutism monarchy but in the year 1830 he needed the support of the liberal to approach the “Ley Sádica” a law that said that if a women doesn’t have any other brother can be queen so her daughter that hadn’t born yet could govern and not Carlos.

1833-1840: Maria Cristina's regency

Finally in 1833 Carlos died and her daughter was still too young to be queen so her wife Maria Cristina passed to be a regent queen. People were unhappy with this decision because they wanted Carlos, Ferdinand’s brother to be the king so they started the I Carlist war. Marica Cristina had lots of problems so she abdicated.

1840-1843: Espatero's regency

After Maria Cristina abdicated, her minister Espartero passed to be the new regent, Spain was in a economic crisis so to cover the bills Espartero unamortized the church properties to let them to the agriculture and they paid taxes so with those cover the bills.

1843-1854: The Elizabeth's reign starts

In 1843 with only 13 years Isabel started to be queen, at this time she was more supported by the moderates and the power of monarchy increased. Then during this year the civil guard was created and the 2nd Carlist war took place.

1854-1856: Progressive biennium

After the rebellion of General O’Dollens revelion was a progressive biennium and now the agricultures that had lands led now could buy those land, they did this to improve the government economy.

1856-1868: Moderates and liberals union

General O'Donnell created a new party called Liberal Union, it was a party that joined the liberal and moderate ideas. During this time Spain was involved in foreign wars in foreign wars, it lost a lot of colonies.

1868-1869:Provisional government

After Isabel was forced to abdicate in 1866, during this year there was a provisional government by Serrano. During this provisional period they recognized the sovereignty of the town so it would be a liberal government.

1870-1873: Amadeo I of Saboya monarchy.

During the provisional government they decided that the new king should be Amadeo of Saboya because they didn’t want any Bourbon, so in 1870 he started to be queen but the Carlist were unhappy so the second Carlist war took place in Spain and finally Amadeo abdicated in 1973 because there were lots of problems.

1973-1874: The 1st Spanish republic

They decided that the government should change so after Amadeo abdicated they decided to make Spain a republic. People didn’t like this decision and during less than a year there were 4 presidents so they realized it was a mistake so they returned to the monarchy.

1874-1898: The Bourbon restoration

When they realized that they made a mistake they decided to restore the Bourbon monarchy, so Alfonzo XII returned to Spain. He married twice and when her second wife Maria Cristina was pregnant he died so there was a problem.

1898: The disaster of the 98'

Maria Cristina would start to be regent. Years before Sapin had been losing lots of colonies but in 1898 Spain would lose the most important colonies. Cuba would revel and Philippines and Puerto Rico would be sold to the United States.

1898-1902: Political reforms

There were two different parties, the conservatives and the liberals, they thought we needed some reforms. And there would appear another political party with so different ideologies that were: Republicans, anarchists, socialists and nationalists. Finally in 1902 Alfonso XIII started to be king.

1909: The tragic week of Barcelona

In 1909 Spain was in a conflict in Morocco between France. As France was winning they asked the young people to go there and fight. But these people didn’t liked the idea so they revealed and protested with strikes and vandalism and to stop this they killed that people.

1917: The crisis

There would be a big crisis because as Spain didn’t participate in the war it sold to the European countries but when the war finished Spain stopped producing to those countries so it came in a crisis.

1917-1923: Political instability

During only 6 years there would be 13 governors in Spain and each one with a different ideology. It would be decisive because what is going to make that in 1923 would be a COUP D’ETAT.

1923-1930: Primo de Rivera's COUP D'ETAT

Primo de Rivera proclaimed a COUP D’ETAT, it was organised by the king too because the situation in Spain was very bad so it needed a radical change. The economy would start to grow and there would be more cities and buildings.

1931: 2nd Spanish republic

In 1929 there was one of the worst economic crisis in the entire world ans Spain became in crisi too so Primo de Rivera abdicated and the 2nd republic started.
