Without these women who helped revive our soldiers many of us wouldn't be here today. This picture reveals women working just as hard as men.

These were nurses who worked 12 hour shifts, 6 days a week. Easily, these shifts turned into twenty four or thirty six hour shifts usually when a large battle occurred which mean a large casualty rate. These women were important as they had long shifts and took care of the wounded. They would also volunteer to go and help the communities. They would provide them with medicine and other medical supplies. The picture shows a nurse working on a soldier, which was very important in trying to make them get back to health.

Many worked on behalf of the American Red Cross, Army Special Services, United Service Organizations (USO), Peace Corps and various religious groups. They were important as they helped tremendously. Other American women traveled to Vietnam as foreign correspondents for news organizations, including Georgette “Dickey” Chappelle, a writer for the National Observer who was killed while on patrol with U.S. Marines outside Chu Lai in November 1965. Below is an example of one of the organizations they worked for.
