Five year olds have more self-control with how to communicate. They begin to create friendships and value the importance of friendship. Children develop habits or traditions that can be traumatic to break or change. One can see that five-year-olds will understand instruction that needs to be followed. Up until this age, children have a very ego-centric mentality, at this point they are beginning to view situations from others perspectives. Conflicts should be easier to work through, as well as emotion control.

Piaget described the growth process in children as a process of adaptation - at this age accommodation is taking place as five year olds use existing knowledge to dissect new situations. 5 year olds are in Piaget's pre-operational stage where young children can think about things symbolically. They are in the latter half of this stage however and have began to shed their ego-centric views.

Their fine motor skills allow them to cut swirls out of paper with accuracy and paste images with ease
Social/Emotional - I observed the fact that the children are less ego-centric at this age through many of the students ability to understand the instructors perspective and view situations from their peers point of view.
Cognitive - The children are learning many topics that challenge their cognitive abilities as well as participate in activities that helps progress their knowledge in topics such as weather, math and spelling.
