We will learn about different leaders around the world who are from diverse cultures and find out how they became such prominent people. This is also included in the literature that we read as we will read books written by people from other cultures and that are full of information on other cultures.

We can do this by having lessons that are based on the cultures that are represented within our classroom. We can have projects where the students learn about their own cultures and then present it to the class, so we all can gain better understandings of each other.

In this, they can research an muticultural issue that is currently going on around them. Then they will build a case study using other students and thier own personal families. They can do interviews, read important forms of literature, etc. Then they would write a paper based on what they found and how they feel about it.

Strategy 4: Celebration through the arts

We will learn to celebrate each other's cultures and diversity through artwork and music. We will learn and listen to music that is culturally appropriate to whatever culture we are currently learning about. Music plays such an important role in almost all cultures, so I think that it is important to use it in the lessons. This is a very fun and freeing way to learn.

We will ensure that each lesson can have differentiated learning involved. It is important to have options and resources for the students because learning is different for everyone. I will start this by sharing about myself so they understand that it is okay to be vulnerable and then they can each take turns talking about their backgrounds and what makes them who they are. It will be known that this is a space with no judgment. I will show them empathy and respect, and expect the same empathy and respect from them.

It will be known that advocacy for everyone is important and critical. When teaching, I will advocate for the cultures that we are learning about and foster the importance of advocating for each other through it. This will also play a role when changing my teaching style to fit the needs of each individual student. I will be able to advocate for them on why they may have different requirements or tools to help them learn. It will play into the "fair" conversations.

Creating strong boundaries and expectations from the beginning, this will ensure that the classroom stays a safe and inclusive space for all students. They will be encouraged to ask appropriate questions, but also not force an answer if they are not comfortable. We will make sure that we are using good language and keeping each other's feelings in mind when communicating with each other.

Strategy 4: Choice of language used in our classroom

Language will be something that we talk about throughout the year. It is important to find out what is deemed acceptable and what is not. There will be no disrespectful language used in the classroom as we are trying to foster a safe space. If a student doesn't know the correct way to communicate, they will be able to talk to me as the teacher without judgment to then learn what is best.

As much as the classroom is a safe place for their children I also want them to feel comfortable talking to be about their children in confidentiality. By creating good relationships with the families I will be able to create good relationships with the kids.

I will ensure that the parents are involved in the curriculum. If there was a topic that we were going to learn about that could be seen inappropriate I would ensure that we get parents to consent before going deeper into the topic. Also, they can give good ideas on how we can make things more relevant to what is currently going on in the world.

It is important to reach out to the community and have its culture recognized. We can do this by going on local field trips or having people come into the class and talk about things that are going on in the community. This will show the diversity within our community but also help the students gain a better understanding of where they live.

I will provide additional support for all students when needed. If the parents communicate with me about struggles or anything that is going on I can ensure that the student is still getting all their needs met at school in a confidential way, to make them feel included no matter what. This could be for field trips or other personal things if appropriate.
