Soxomon Soxomonyan/1869-1935/. He is recognized  as one of the pioneers of ethnomusicology. He collected  and transclibed over 3000 pieces of  Armenian folk music, more than half of which were subsecuently lost and only  around 1,200 are now extant. He fought for Armenian  ethnomusic  himself lonely by visiting from one village to the other   writing the songs, which the armenians sing while doing their works.
Komitas is widely  seen as a martyr of the genocide and has been  depicted as one of the main symbols of the Armenian  Genocide in art.
